So..Newegg is sending out aRoia and aGoia chips? Are the AROIA chips you are starting to get Y stepping? Overall, do the AROIA chips need more volts to get the AGOIA OC speed, or are they able to go higher and the higher voltage just a part of going faster than a AGOIA can?

Teehee, sold my 1.4 Tbird AYHJA for $54 and got a 1600+ XP AROIA for $51.99. Nothing like being paid to upgrade
Is it just me or does svcompucyle not allow you to add the GC68 to your cart anymore??

Since SVC is OOS on GC68...what's the alternative HSF to GC68 as far as performance and price....I'm running non-OC retail xp 1800 and the stupid DEER 300w psu burned out the first hour...I read a post in here that Raidmax 300w psu for 12 bucks....so should I replace the power supply first and/or change the stock HSF ......THANKS

I wasted half an hour trying to order a GC-68 at SVC. Finally called them, the person I talked to said they would be back in stock "in a couple of weeks". Case-Mod also carries the GC-68, but they too are out of stock. One of the local clone shops (PC Club) carries an AOC cooler that looks a lot like a GC-68 heatsink with a different fan (and fan alarm). The bad news is they want $20 for it.

PC Club info page (Note this page doesn't show much -- I was able to get the AOC number off the product box when I was in the store.)

AOC Info page.

heohunter, I'm no expert on HSF's for Athlon rigs, but the SVC Golden Gate 40 looks like a good price/performance option.
SVC Golden Gate 40

Here are two links to reviews on it: 2fastcpu.com and here: Reviewmakers.com

My only beef with this model is the lousy one lug mounting mechanism, a joint clip unit. Much more easy to use, but not a good performer is this unit found at SVC also : Dr. Thermal V77L This is a much better mounting setup but the reviews were mixed, with some issues: Dr. Thermal V77 review

Anybody here have running a Abit kg-7 unlocked to 166 fsb stable?

Keep in mind that the KG7 will be using a 1/4 multiplier on the PCI bus which moves it from 33MHz to 41.5MHz, a 26% increase. Some hard drives or expansion cards may not tolerate it very well. Similarly, the AGP will be at 83MHz. Not saying that it can't be done, but it's going to be very system specific. Someone else having succeeded or failed will mean almost nothing in terms of your odds. At a minimum, back up your hard drive with Ghost or DriveImage (or your tool of choice) before attempting in case it scrambles your data.

And of course, high quality DDR266/PC2100 or standard DDR333/PC2700 will help your chances. Tweaking the multiplier is a more elegant solution that keeps all your other hardware in spec, but won't yield the memory and PCI bandwidth gains.

Best regards,
Floyd

I thought i had the markings written down around here somewhere but i guess not.

I have a AGOIA running rock solid at xp 2200, 1.8Ghz @200mhz FSB (5:2:1) on the abit at7 with kingmax ddr400. been testing it out for a while now running rock solid at a 80mhz agp and 40 mhz pci bus. Damn nice chip.

Not sure but i think i messed up the unlock a bit, can't get any of the X.5 multipliers to work.

Dammit all ! Price went UP to $55 !!?? I waited a day too late as last night they were still at $52. Oh well, ordered one at that price anyhow **sigh** I was kicking around picking up an 1800+ but at $75 currently, an additional 200 mhz is not going to rawk my world. This marks my baby steps into the AMD camp, as I finally decide to buy based on price rather than any other factor. Ahh, competition is such a sweet thing.

Newegg's price on the XP1600+ is now $55 with free shipping, but I live in California and would have to pay sales tax which kicks it up to $59.40 or so. I can get the XP1700+ for $58 delivered from PCSupplysource in NJ, which seems to get above average Resellersratings, though certainly not in Newegg's class.

The part is Model AX1700DMT3CAGKGA. I gather the AGKGA CPUs seem to overclock about as well as the AGOIA, no? In any case, I probably wouldn't be able to overclock the CPUs, since the boards I need CPUs for are an Epox EP-8KTA3L+ (KT133A chipset) and a Biostar M7VIG (Via KM266 chipset), and I don't trust myself to connect the bridges, so I'd have to rely on FSB increases. And anyway, the KM266 board has basically no CPU overclocking capabilities and the Epox is an older model with limited ability to do FSB overclocking, so I might as well go with a cheaper, faster (non-overclocked) processor.

Anyone have any relevant experience with PCsupplysource or the AGKGA processors?

AGKGA are hit or miss. Either they run super, or they are just good for stock.
I believe the order of better o/c chips is:
AGOIA > AROIA > AGKGA > AGOGA > AGNGA > AGLHA > AROGA >

But in other news, newegg is starting to send out AGNGA's...bad.

Guys, I posted this a few days ago in the Cooling forum. The GC68 is IN STOCK here. GC118 & GC68 are the same item. Price is $7.50 + $4.75 shipping. I ordered and received mine within 3 days priority mail. And the company also has excellent reseller ratings.

Shinj1EVA, when did you order that 2 1600 processors from newegg?

I should receive it on Thursday and hopefully it will be either AGOIA or AROIA
