Release Date 11/21/2014

Bundle consisting of Game, GameCube Adapter for Wii U and GameCube Controller for $99.99

Game only for $59.99

I was curious to see what other people are going to get. I have two GameCube controllers sitting in my box of Wii peripherals.

I am debating on the combo deal as being a part of GCU with BB, it is $79.99 whereas the Adapter is $19.99 and Controller is $29.99 are not discounted on their own. The game by itself would be $47.99 due to GCU.

I have been checking out Amiibo and it looks interesting. I am leaning towards Samus or Link. I have not really gotten into a SSB game before and am really looking forward to this one.

Nintendo started making Gamecube controllers again?

Indeed they have.

I'll unquestionably pick this up. The only down sides are that:

1. My Wii U lives at my sister's, so I'll have to wait a day to play.
2. The Mario Kart 8 DLC is out on 11/13, so I might still be eating away at that, meaning I wouldn't as easily be up for playing.

However, I'm skipping the bundle with the controller. As it turns out, the controller ONLY will work with SSB, nothing else. I can't justify the $40 premium for that.

That's false. The controller is just a gamecube controller - it'll work with anything that takes a gamecube controller.

The adapter is what only works with the Wii U.

/facepalm, you missed the point. The GameCube's games aren't Wii U-compatible. Nintendo said at the start that any game supporting the Pro controller would support this, and then they came out right before release and said that it ONLY works with SSB.

That the controller works with games I can't play on my console is irrelevant to the discussion.

Some of us also have Wii's and Gamecubes, so stating that the controller only works with SSB Wii U is just plain false.

Don't get mad at me that you got your facts wrong

U mad bro?

For those of you skipping the adapter, are you not planning on playing 8 man smash?

3 people play on my Wii U, 4 at the absolute max, and Nintendo cannot pull off a decent gaming network, so I can't play the game online.

Also, people have said that the Wii U will accept up to 7 wireless controllers, meaning with the GamePad, you could (if the person is correct) do 8-player without the adapter.

I still have a wavebird but I don't think I'll pick up the adaptor. I'll probably just use a pro controller to play, personally I never thought the gamecube controller was that great.

Oh sweet, didn't know you could use 7 pro controllers. I'll still get the adapter though since I have GC controllers to use and its my favorite control scheme. I'll have 4 GC controllers, 3 Wii U controllers, and 1 Gamepad as playing options.

I don't know if there is an 8 player online mode, but for what it's worse Mario Kart 8 was pretty smooth online in my experience. Brawl on the Wii was awful though.

Honestly, I didn't even know that The Wii U version of SSB HAD online multiplayer. With Mario Kart 8, it is mostly positive. However, there is noticeable lag in close races, where I would cross the finish line, the game wouldn't show my standing for a few seconds, and then I would be put 3 spots back at the end (after the race was over).

My gripe with the Wii U, though, is the inability to communicate. It's stupid how MK8's only chat option is pre-cut, meaningless text messages while you wait for the race to start. I want to talk to my friends online, if we play together. I want to have a good laugh with my opponents. No chat communication, let alone private parties? It's moronic to the point that I might just see about firing up the Xbox One, starting a chat party, then using that while playing the Wii U, if I play with a friend online.

Agreed. The GC/Wavebird was a nice controller, but I don't see why the Wii U Pro Controller would be any worse for SSB.

I don't know what it is, but there is no way I can play this game without the GC controller. I have the emulator for Dolphin and I tried other controllers and it just isn't the same.

Depends on how serious of a Smash player you are though I guess to how much you care about a change like that. To me, it's a complete and utter no go.

Children play this game man... You can't have voice chat and children. Wii U is catered to children, I can't imagine the obscenities thrown at those poor kids if this game had voice chat. I've seen fist fights break out over smash so while I would LOVE voice chat, I just don't think it'd be feasible.

LOL, the things I've heard out of the mouths of children (on Xbox LIVE, on the Internet in general, or even in public) kills this defense. I'm not saying voice chat needs to be forced upon all users (easily could have a parental block built in, or limit it to private chat parties with friends).

I mean, children are such foul-mouthed little turds nowadays (especially on CoD) that I don't really worry about that crap.

I for one am happier without voice chat in pub games.

Yes, but if it's there, there is the option to turn it off, if you're not interested. If it's not there, you don't get to turn it on. I'd rather give folks a choice in the matter, rather than leave a large chunk of users wanting.

You again fail to see the point.

Xbox Live is catering to GAMERS.
Wii U's target market is a younger age bracket. They want to keep that foul language off their console.

Is this concept that hard for you to grasp? If it is it's ok I'm just curious.

You already did bother by responding.

I'm guessing it was too hard of a concept for you to grasp which is ok. I find the internet makes it harder to grasp viewpoints that aren't your own.
You may want voice chat. I certainly want voice chat (It's apparently part of my game according to many different friend groups I've played this game with) but it's painfully obvious to me the reasons against it for a family oriented console.

But well, not everyone can see viewpoints that aren't their own so it's ok.

"madbro" is that a new meme to state that someone is mad?

Both of you calm down and start behaving like adults. We don't need dumb means nor insults to intelligence around here.
