Update: Super Street Fighter IV release date announced as April 27th.

New Box Art looks...super?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Gamespot and Kotaku have the first impressions. Teaser Website

This is NOT DLC. DLC will not be available. Capcom is claiming that this is such a massive overhaul of the game code that they couldn't do DLC.

What makes this 'Super' then?
- 8 new characters but that may change (new character Juri and old characters T. Hawk and Dee Jay shown)
- "Comprehensive tuning" to the existing fighter roster to balance them out better.
- New Ultra Combos
- "Considerably enhanced" online experience (won't be compatible with original SFIV).
- Unannounced bonus to original SFIV owners
- Game will cost less than a new release.

Street Fighter IV is joining the Spring-pocalypse 2010 lineup of games.

I know some will be angry and cry foul but I'm happy. I can't wait. I heard rumors that Makoto would be in it....I'll be so happy if that turns out to be true.

I'm not happy. This will pull people away from the original, so there's less people to play against and the game is still quite new. Fuckers... I won't give them another dime.

I agree in principle. Most people aren't going to get the new version of SF4, because lets face it, fighting games don't get yearly sales like sports games do. Not only that, most people suck at the game (myself included) and probably won't get get the Super version. It would be great if Capcom would allow you to play regular SF4 players without changing discs, but of course no game developer will ever make it that easy.

But more importantly, what I want is variety, and most people do as well. Don't get me wrong, I love SF4, but I get bored of it after a while. I want to see some lobbies (6 people or so taking turns fighting each other), I want to see some online tournaments (with the ability to spectate other matches), I want to see some co-op tag team fighting (ok, that's a stretch for Street Fighter, but it could be done). My point is, is that I'd like to see more than just story mode and 1v1. Just a little bit of variety, that's all I'm asking, and I'll jump on board.

Damn, I just got SFIV and another capcom game with a special edition sorta thing coming. Got them for PC. I want to be excited but I don't like having to "buy something again" even if it's a little different.

So I'm guessing $39.99 at the least, and SFIV owners will get an alternate costume pack for 3 of the most unused characters. And then you've got BlazBlue Continuum Shift on the way was well. I'm such a fucking idiot, I should've known this would happen when I spent $90 on both these games at launch. Time to cut my massive losses and sell these betas for whatever I can get out of em, no more fighting games for me.

I guess they got the idea from Valve to release an incremental upgrade as a whole new game.

D:

Street Fighter II - March 1991
Street Fighter II: Championship Edition - April 1992
Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting (aka Turbo) - December 1992
Super Street Fighter II - October 1993
Super Street Fighter II Turbo - March 1994

Street Fighter Alpha - June 1995
Street Fighter Alpha 2 - February/March 1996

Street Fighter III: New Generation - February 1997
Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact - October 1997

Street Fighter Alpha 3 - June 1998

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike - May 1999

This isn't anything new. They add characters and re-balance gameplay all the time. It's more than just a yearly roster update, and it doesn't make SFIV a beta. It's no guarantee that Super Street Fighter IV will be a better game than Vanilla IV anyway (SSFII wasn't better than Hyper Fighting...). Street Fighter IV will still be a good game 5 months from now or whenever Super gets released.

It'll certainly be unfortunate that the online communities will get split up, though.

Yes but that was in a totally different time when you couldn't release updates for a home console game. No reason in today's age to not offer it as an update other than for them to make more money.

you guys claiming stuff "should be" DLC or whatever really need to get off your high horse. who are you to tell a company what theys hould and shouldn't do?

hell i remember buying street fighter 2 3x on SNES, for a grand total of $200.

Street Fighter 2 = $60
Street Fighter 2 Turbo = $70
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo = $70

This is nothing new. if you don't want to pay for it, don't, simple as that.

back on topic....

here is a video of the 2 new characters in action.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csly3YrSVPQ

and here is a scan showing that Dee Jay is also one of the new character.

i don't really see this as being a problem.

i mean let's face it. anyone who is really into SF4 will go out and buy the Super edition of it. people who aren't really into SF4 will not go out and buy it.

basically, it means SSF4 won't have as many scrubs online as SF4 does

Lol, what a joke releasing a 'super' version of game in this day and age.
Same thing with Capcom's rerelease of Resident Evil 5.

Minor updates, really capcom? I suppose it keeps the game on store shelves, but with DLC and multiplayer, there's no excuse not to offer an upgrade path.

Well, we are the consumers that keep them in business. If they want to maximize profits they'll listen to every damn word we have to say. What I don't like is how they said they're balancing characters better, and improving online multiplayer... meaning they know it's not great now, but they won't fix it for free.

I'm a huge fan of SFIV, but this is horse shit. Capcom just moved ahead EA in my 'do not buy from' list.

I don't see why this would all of a sudden anger you with Capcom, they have been doing this since SNES days, again, it is nothing new.

These rebalancing has happened in every interation of Street Fighter to date, and they have never been free upgrades.

In the SNES days, DLC was not an option.

It is no longer the SNES days. The industry has evolved, Capcom has not.

This looks interesting, but I will wait and see what the exact details are and what the price will be before I make a decision.

I guess the time to trade in the original SF IV is now while it still has some value.

For those who are complaining about the it's-not-DLC-ness of the game, at what price would you consider Super SFIV to be fair?

and in SNES days, games were $70, which with inflation today, would probably be close to $100.

and in SNES days games were made with like 5 people, not 100+ that are involved in making games today.
