no they shouldn't

hate this mentality that seems to plague the fighting community, and it is so evident over on SRK. everyone wants these updates and new features for free.

there is a difference between balance updates and features ... the features are going to be DLC with AE and the features are going to cost you $15. if you don't want the new characters or the replay mode, you don't have to pay for them. simple as that.

not sure why you fired it up the other night thinking there wuold be new characters yet heh. they just announced yesterday that the AE update will be out on June 7th.

I think it is only the newer generation complaining about paid DLC. I remember when a balance patch and a few new characters you had to get a whole new cabinet. Personally, I feel the $40 I spent on SSFIV and the $15 I will spend on the DLC is worth the tons of gameplay I've gotten out it.

Please pardon my lateness but, I heard Makoto is nice in AE, is this true? Did they change her walk speed?

So I played a few games of endless yesterday and proceeded to get beat, which is fine because I'm still learning. I was wondering though, what do you guys think of taunting? I played someone yesterday who was doing it constantly and when the match was over I was kicked from the lobby. I'm not sure why, I suppose I didn't meet his level of expectations? I haven't played too much but does this happen often?

I hate people that taunt.

Use it as motivation to improve and wipe the floor with them the next time you play.

EDIT:

And don't feel down about losing. I played a ton of matches today and went 16-3 to start and now have lost about 5 out of 6. It's frustrating as hell.

Taunting doesn't happen too much in my experience, and I don't find it as annoying as I used to. I figure, let them taunt while I figure out their game. Endless battles are a great way since you can spectate people or play 'em frequently, and it's pretty satisfying coming back to beat someone who's constantly taunting. Don't let taunting bug you too much, and if it does, just use it as motivation to do better.

I'm still debating whether I want to register for SSF4 or not.

You'll be fine as you don't get a bracket of death like I did for the past 2 years. First year I had to beat combofiend to get out of my bracket, and second year I had Ricky Ortiz =/

That is pretty harsh. Ricky is such an amazing player, I don't think I'd be able to take a round, let alone a game, off him. But I am not the best SSFIV player. Maybe with AE I can dive kick my way to victory.

I remember when vanilla just came out in arcades and Ricky didn't even give shit about the game. I beat his rufus pretty bad with gief and then he started to get serious about SF4 and I was never able to beat him again =/

Hey guys. Just wondering where you guys are located. I love this game, to a point where I have played 10 hours straight! Just wondering if you guys like Arcade Edition. I obviously hate it cuz they nerfed most of my used charecters. Hmm, well, if anybody wants to play online, my Gamertag is the same as my Nick here. Please, add, and lets have some endless battle fun.

I find it disrespectful to taunt, but I assume you where in a room of good players. Maybe they laughed it out, and kicked. Oh well, that kind of attitude of players I dont like. Thinking they all top dog..Oh well, im down for some matches. Hit me up. I also post on ShoRyuKen too.

I'm east coast, in MD here.

I haven't played AE yet so I can't really comment on it, however I plan on getting it day 1 when the DLC is out.

WTF.... there is zero way to avoid Gief's wake up Ultra I if you're within grabbing distance?

I just knocked one down, walked up like I was going to apply pressure but didn't press a button, he gets up and kicks out the Ultra and I immediately push up to jump. Didn't matter.

you have to jump before the ultra animation starts because the startup frames are faster than the jump execution frames.

Good to know. He was an 18k Geif and I had him beat save for that Ultra at the end.

Oh well, live and learn.

Side note:

I did learn that the jump execution happens faster than Geif's throw after he hits you with the knee cross up. Twice I just let him hit me with the knee and then jumped straight up as he whiffed the grab which left him wide open for a nice punish.

Gief players can mix it up and mash out lariat after a crossup knee knowing you're pressing jump to escape SPD or ultra. It's all mind games and gief has a massive advantage if you're knocked down.

yah that isn't due to startup frames though, that is due to you being in hit stun where you are invincible for those frames. if you had blocked those knees and stayed there, chances are you would have been thrown because the block stun recovers much quicker than the hit stun. best way to face a gief is to just not let him in on you, and yes i know much easier said than done

Vertical jump is not 0 frame?

jumps have 4 frames of startup, with the exception of a few who are more than that, and dhalsim is 3 i believe.

so to be a little clearer, there are 4 frames from when you push up until you are "off the ground". so during those 4 frames you can be grabbed.

Actually, most jumps has 4 frames of startup (the exception is Thawk and Gief's jump starts up in 6 frames so you can do a stand 720), but is throw invulnerable from the first frame. What happens is that even though you are throw invulnerable on the first frame, it takes at least one frame for the input for jump to register within the game since you technically can't input the jump in 0 frames.

If you could be thrown in these 4 frames of startup, you technically could not escape meaty throws or command throws and that certainly is not the case.

buzzsaws got it right. You can block the crossup knee AND jump if you're fast enough and avoid the SPD or ultra. What I have noticed though is that most giefs online will more often go for the command throw following cross up knee so you're probably better off taking the risk with jumping. Just don't get mindfucked into jumping everytime. I've eaten consecutive crossup knee -> lariat on many occasions since my brain went into "avoid command throw" mode.

yah invulnerable frames are a different story and move dependant, but some of the normals for everyone have invulnerable frames, such as you are stating as well as a lot of dash statups (not sure if all do).

then you got the special properties of reversals and counters too.
