The "V" on the end of the part number just tells you who made the memory chips. Some Googling turned up Nanya as the maker of these chips, not the best brand. The ones with an "M" at the end are Micron chips.

Well I wasn't really on planning on overclocking without heat spreaders anyways

Nanya is fine for folks not overclocking, and fine for anyone running a Dell ddr3-based system. Dell uses a lot of Nanya in their desktops and workstations.

Pretty much irrelevant as long as you aren't overclocking the memory (which doesn't really help performance anyway).

yea, putting extra money into "premium" memory is the biggest waste of all system subcomponents imho. your better off putting it into a higher tier cpu or gpu or even ssd. unless your a hardcore overclocker... but then really money shouldn't matter.

That's been my experience too. The bang/buck ratio is way down on fancy sticks

Just got my 2 sticks yesterday. Horrible packaging, I just hope they weren't ruined.

That all depends... like you said, if you're overclocking, particularly with a locked CPU, then you need ram that can handle higher bus speeds.

I just installed four 4GB sticks in a Dell Studio XPS 8100. BIOS showed only 8GB, but CPU-Z reports the full 16GB. Both report it running in dual-channel mode at 1333 MHz. Which one should I trust? Perhaps bamacre knows?

BTW, I got a next-day delivery on my memory: It turns out, they have a warehouse very near me. Excellent service.

Just noticed that there is a new $5 off code. Too bad I already bought all the momory I need.

If anyone is thinking about getting more than 2 sticks, consider placing multiple orders of 2 sticks each (with the last order of 1 for odd numbers). This way, your orders will qualify for ~$2.XX USPS rate rather than the more expensive $10+ UPS rate.

Never tried 16GB in that model. Should work. Make sure you have the newest BIOS.

What does Windows say about it?

Windows 7 home basic x64 has an 8 GB limit. Is that what you are running?

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate. So, it is either a BIOS issue, or a hardware problem (a bad memory module or a bad slot). I will try reshuffling memory later tonight.

I had 4 sticks of memory before (4x2GB), but now I am wondering if they ALL worked. It's not like I was checking BIOS or Windows System screen regularly.

Most likely, it will come down to a bad memory stick or one that is not sitting properly in its slot.

well if you test it with 8gb, twice then you can be sure the memory is ok.

Superbiiz/ewiz is really hit or miss on the packaging these days. How did they pack it? Let me guess, they put it in a big limp bubble envelope and shipped it UPS ground.

I still have some ST DDR2 left from bam's old thread. I guess I need to order some of this. LOL

1) Re-seated all 4 sticks - No change: BIOS still showed 8GB.
2) Removed DIMM #4 - BIOS reported 12GB.
3) Replaced DIMM #3 with the one that used to be in #4 - Still 12GB, good.
4) Added the former #3 into the 4th slot - BIOS showed 16GB.

So, I am good to go after switching DIMMs 3 and 4. I guess I will need to keep an eye on the memory the next couple of weeks to see if it is an intermittent problem.
