Ehh... even fantasy and sci-fi needs to follow its own rules. His point wasn't that it had to adhere to this real world, but have some sort of working universe without throwing random nonsensical new things episode to episode.

Pretty much this.

I suppose some people would want to see Supergirl to suddenly turn invisible or shrink down to atom size, and say that is perfectly acceptable, since this is all fantasy anyway!

Even if the show was consistent with the fantasy universe it would still stink. Bad acting, bad writing, bad costumes. It's targeting tween girls. They aren't looking for consistency.

So, I've been watching the show, and it's not bad, but one thing is bugging me: Jimmy Olsen is completely useless and unnecessary to the show. It's like they wedged the character in because they were unsure the other characters would stand on their own. I see him getting written out next season truthfully.

The only essentials characters are Supergirl, Cat Grant, and Martian Manhunter. Olsen, the sister, Toyman Jr and the Lex Luthor wannabe can be written out and the show would probably be better.

Each episode of SuperGirl gets more and more ridiculous. Do they import criminals from other cities ? The Myriad episode had Superman coming to help and he shows up for 2 seconds then is gone to be drone like the rest.

I don't see much hope for this series.

Yeah... this episode was painful. Will keep watching and waiting for the unlikely chance that Melissa Benoist and Calista Flockhart get it on...

And the way they explained that away was beyond ridiculous, even for this show.
Let's not get into the whole Krypton exoskeleton either.

How much you want to bet that the Martian manhunter won't use his mental telepathy blocking ability on Superman, even though he is supposed to be "dead" now.

I think the writers assumed
we all have amnesia, and forgot about superman, and how the Martian manhunter was done for.
How the heck did they even let the Martian manhunter break Indigo apart?
Then they have that sorry excuse of "saving" supergirl with the escape pod, since you know that martian manhunter was looking in awe, and couldn't be bothered to do anything else, and Superman? Oh right, let's not forget about his cameo text....
And how did she even activate or even know how to fly the pod, let alone get fuel for it, or even have room for more than 1 person?
Then, let's not forget about the technology left behind at the scene, that the Martian manhunter "forgot" about...
Lastly, seems the budget ran out, lots of those scenes were from before...and the CGI was laughable.

I'm guessing you forgot to read the disclaimer before every CBS show. "If you have an understanding of basic physics and logic please go to your garage and huff paint until you black out. When you wake up you may continue watching the proceeding program. Repeat as needed."

Yeah that was a bunch of horse manure. I hope they don't renew this and it goes to the CW.

I don't see them giving this show a well deserved axe, since it is "empowering woman", and you can't do away with a show with that theme, no matter how idiotic it is written, and no matter if the facts can change between (or in) episodes... nope, sorry, "I am woman, hear me roar!"

I think ironically the weakest part about Supergirl is that, well its based on Supergirl. If this was a Devil Wears Prada/Ugly Betty clone it would be great. The comic book stuff gets in the way. I dont know why they cant get the Supergirl part right when the same group does Arrow and Flash.

I kinda agree, they should have went with Wonder Woman, or go with Super Friends or Justice League.

Their A-List characters are off limits since they want to build the movie universe. Flash just happened to be made before the movies were decided.

Is that the reason? Oddly enough then, I bet a SuperGirl movie would have gone better than this series, and generated more revenue, though, they would need a new cast.
I am not sure who is at fault here, is it the CEO of CBS telling them what to write, is it Ali Adler's (producer) attempt to interfere with the writers or are the writers drunk all the time while making the scripts?

The continuity is just blown to bits. Why was it that when superman was "off world", got supergirl's S.O.S, came flying in, got the equivalent of the Vulkan mind meld instantaneously, but then supergirl can't go "offworld", (and notice how her hair is blowing to the side in space?) just screams of someone saying "Nope, we can't have a man save her! We need a woman, writers fix it!"
The scale they showed of supergirl lifting Fort Rozz was laughable, it was like she was the atom.
Then, since they want to make it that kryptonians can't survive in outer space, then, didn't she just kill all those "sleeping" kryptonians? Fort Rozz was damaged when it crashed landed...and why were the other kryptonians sleeping anyway, instead of taking strategic positions around the globe to fight superman and whomever else?

This is why it seems to be some heavy interference going on from the top.

Finally got around to watching the episode, and yeah, this was odd. Kryptonians recharge themselves by flying into space and getting a good shot of sunlight. And in pretty much every Superman movie he has been in space. Sometimes in the cartoons they make it that he needs a suit or ship if he's going to be there for awhile, but the whole thing was set up so that she could have her Superman/Christ sacrifice moment. Being saved by the sister using the pod was dumb. If they didn't gimp Superman in the beginning, they could have did the "he saves her but they don't show his face" thing. They make a lot of odd choices in this show. And ending it on the cliffhanger was just lame. They probably won't get a second season unless its on CW.

I guess this can now be called Supergirl 2.0, new time slot, new network, but, with the same ridiculous writing.
Superman actually made an appearance, and it appears he is going to be a regular for a few episodes, and now, they made him mad at the Martian Manhunter for keeping kryptonite around.

When Fort Rozz needed a boost into space, it just required supergirl, but when something that is 5000x(or more) smaller, that job can only be done by supergirl & superman?

Then, they said the explosion was meant to take out only 1 person in a specific seat, but, the craft couldn't stay in the air, so, if the craft is doomed anyway how do they come up with that, and why not just blow everything up in the first place?

The show felt like the budget was slashed. The bad visual effects were worse. The dialogue was worse. I don't know why it's still on. The CW already has enough dopey superhero shows.

The space pod save thing made absolutely no effing sense.

they appear to be going off of the john byrne man of steel '80s reboot. in order to get rid of the throw everything into the sun solution to everything, dc let byrne power down supes. so while still solar powered, he still needs oxygen thus no flying into space/deep space (thus retconning away all of the goofy 'cosmic' adventures of the 60's where S interacted with aliens and not humans in order to bypass comics code authority on violence.)

the first ep of the new season was a ratings blowout for CW, pretty much guarantees a full season.
