Superman questions

I watched Superman Returns over the weekend and had some questions about the movie and about Superman in general.

So is Lois Lane's kid Superman's son or what?
I didn't think Superman could have kids with normal humans or am I thinking of something else?

So when Superman went looking for the remnants of Krypton without saying goodbye to Lois, did Clark say goodbye or did he just leave too?

In the movie, they showed a memory or whatever of Superman as a boy running through the fields on the Kent farm and they made it seem like he all of a sudden discovered his powers. The same thing seemed to happen with Lois Lane's son.
If he gets his power from our sun, wouldn't he have the powers from the time he landed?

Also, how the fvck does anyone not know that Superman and Clark Kent are the same person? A pair of glasses is his only disguise?? When my co-workers put on a pair of glasses, i don't automatically go, who the fvck are you? i know who they are!

So if Lois and Superman had sex, how would she still not know that he was Clark Kent? If he loves her so much, why can't he tell her?

Running through the fields is when he started to open up his powers and let loose. He would have had his powers the instant he got out of his escape pod.

Super-Hypnotism! Yes I am serious, the classic DC character (otherwise known as E1 Superman) literally had the ability to super-hypnotize people with just his eyes into believing that he was literally a different person while wearing glasses.

So if Lois and Superman had sex, how would she still not know that he was Clark Kent? If he loves her so much, why can't he tell her?

Her kid is Superman's son. Since this movie is supposed to take place after Superman II, and III and IV are no longer considered part of the continuity, the notion is that she became pregnant with his child during Superman II during the period in which he gave up his powers and became human.

It would seem Clark did say good-bye, since several people seemed to know that he had gone on some sort of soul-searching trip. They commented on it when Clark came back.

Kal-El demonstrated his powers soon after crash landing on Earth. If you recall during the first movie, he lifted up the truck that fell off the jack when he was a toddler. This was right after they found him in the crater his ship crashed in, since the truck blew out the tire when they were swerving to avoid the crashing ship. The only power that he seemed to suddenly "discover" in Superman Returns was flying, or at least hovering. That actually goes a bit against the first movie, since you never saw him fly until he got the outfit. Why wouldn't he suddenly discover it out of a panic reflex, since he didn't exactly have a primer explaining what powers he would develop?

As for the glasses being his disguise, the notion was not just the glasses disguising him, but also his entire bumbling Clark Kent persona. I mean, if someone acted like Aimster or Jerboy, then you saw them later wearing a superhero costume and acting like the ultimate Alpha Male, you might not automatically assume they were the same person. Plus, that's how it was in the comic books, and they decided to stick to it.

At the end of Superman II, Superman/Clark Kent kissed Lois, and apparently caused her to lose her memory.

A few of your questions would be answered by watching Superman II. Throughout production, Bryan Singer said that this is roughly a sequel to that movie and some of the stuff with the kid would make more (though probably not perfect) sense with that in mind.

When they first meet back up, Lois asks him how his trip was (I forget, was it a safari or Australian backpacking trip?). So he must have given her that excuse.

There are a bunch of versions of the Superman story, but some of them have him discovering his powers in his early teens. I suppose they were latent, like mutants in the X-men. [EDIT: The people above are right for the movie continuity, I forgot about the whole lifting of the truck thing. But I still believe that I have read versions where he didn't get his powers until later.]

This point has been around forever and is constantly cited by people who like comics but hate Superman for being bland. I see their point. I suspend my disbelief so far already that it's not a big deal for me to just go ahead and accept it. Other people find it unacceptable. Meh.

As far as the kid just finding out about his powers, Superman gets his power from the Sun. He's a solar battery. The longer he stays absorbing sunlight the more powerful he gets. The kid is probably the same he has been building power and seeing his mom in trouble it finally released and he now has the ability turned on.

Eh, since you're being picky about, while in gestation in her womb, the kid is in the dark, not exposed to sunlight. After the birth, if she's in a room with some light shining on her and the kid, or walking outside in the daylight, you might have something there, but no, not really since he wouldn't have exposure to solar energies to charge him up.

i never read teh superman comics, but I seem to remember it being "Earth's Yellow sun" that imparted superman's powers on him. IE, he would have been a normal Kryptonian on Krypton, but it was the (to his race) unnatural sun of Earth that gave him superpowers.

Therefore, I would think that the baby wouldn't have superpowers until after its birth and having been exposed to the sun. Now, that doesn't mean superman's super sperm wouldn't tear apart Lois Lane's inferior human fallopian tubes.... a'la Mallrats

He had been away from Earth for quite some time, and according to the comics it can take a while for him to recharge.

Can't remember right now, but he went on a trip somewhere. It is mentioned in Returns.

Yes he has them. However, he didn't know what they are. He learned them as time and need came about.

He did tell her in Superman 2 and then gave up his powers to solely be with her. Need caused him to restore his powers, and due to that need he realized that he could not be what she needed him to be (remember spiderman). So she has known about him, but her memory was erased. As for the sperm/ejaculation, no one really knows about the fluids in his body. They may act normal, whereas his skin would be impregnable (hence no blood to test).

In the movies, Kryptonian spaceships have a severe lack of landing gear.
