Why can't Hollywood understand that when a story or character is popular across several generations, it doesn't need to be fvcked with by some no-talent hack? But no, they always think THEY can do better, so instead of a movie adaptation of Homer's Iliad, we get "Troy". Instead of the X-Men as they've been loved for decades, we get "Wolverine and his backup band", with Cyclops getting two lines per film.

Yeah, I thought it completely sucked. Ultimately Superman isn't that interesting a character IMO, in that he is essentially invulnerable and has no skeletons in his closet. It is also really tough to swallow, in a live-action film, the idea that he is unrecognizable as Clark Kent just because he's wearing glasses. In my world, Batman Begins is a 4-star movie, the Spiderman films are 3 1/2, and Superman Returns is at most 1 1/2.

Too many people live too vicariously through superheroes.
They get pretty p!ssed off when they aren't delivered as they have it in their head.
Good reading <> Good watching.
I want Thomas Covenant to come to the silver screen.

That's another problem. If you've ever seen the Justice League animated series, they gimped Superman- and it worked very well! We was still invunerable, but high caliber bullets from a chain gun could push him back (and sting a bit), electricity could hurt him, and his strength had limits. I wish they'd do that in the movies.

i read covenant back in '83 and '84. (the first trilogy anyway).
i go way back with it, but i don't think it will translate to the big screen very well.

They admit that they gimped him too much in the early Justice League seasons though. They beefed him up more towards the end, and give a good explanation of why he treads lightly in the final episode during his battle with Darkseid.
