It is posts like this, that attempt to rationalize why it is okay to be against same sex marriage, that are the most damaging.

It is OK to be against it, like its OK to find premarital sex morally wrong.

I don't see what the fuss is about. Why not let people be and accept what they want to?

Everyone isn't a right-wing hack trying to impose their views on the country.

It looks like it is reasonable, but it isn't.

It's reasonable.

Your morals not aligning with society isn't courageous. If I believed it to be moral to rape children, am I a coward for "conforming to society"? Comparing it to racial segregation is not a bully tactic. It is nearly identical, with identical arguments of why it shouldn't exist.

You're smarter than this...I know you are.

Don't drop down to obvious stupidity and hyperbole to make your point.

Makes it look as if you have no real, legit objection to my post...so you have to cite extreme examples.

Stop, please...you're smarter than this.

There are zero logical reasons a man cannot legally marry another man. There is no harm that will come to society. If someone can give me a single reason why same sex marriage should not be legal that doesn't involve tradition, religion, or cannot be applied to opposite sex marriage, I will support not allowing it.

I agree, objecting to SSM isn't banning it. Personally, I outright object it, but I am OK with gays marrying if/when it becomes legal because I am not forced to officiate a gay wedding, nor marry someone of the same sex myself.

I believe people for the most part are sexually fluid. Certain barriers have been put in place by society that tells us we "have" to be one or the other.

This social conditioning starts in school with us being told there is only one right answer to a question. From the time we start kindergarten all the way through high school and college we are told to stay within certain boundaries, draw within the lines, there is only one right answer.

My personal opinion, the true state of human sexuality is somewhere between straight and bi-sexual. Being 100% straight and 100% gay does not exist. It is like a golden unicorn, it just does not exist.

Awesome statement.

As further evidence for this take a look at Ancient Greece where it was common for men to have sex with other men. Unless one wants to argue there were major evolutionary changes since then its pretty apparent what is going on.

Going further as a thought experiment. Besides "its gay", or "OMG AIDS!!!!" why shouldn't you engage in butt-sex with your friends, especially as say a horny adolescent boy?

Funny even same-sex marriage supporters disagree with you on that.
Just because I don’t agree with an argument, however, doesn’t mean it’s irrational. Marriage has historically been a sexual institution. A rational person can maintain that a relationship between two people categorically incapable of producing children together—that is, two people of the same sex—can’t be a marriage. That argument doesn’t justify denying them the right to love one another openly, nor does it justify denying them the benefits and honors we bestow on couples for making lifetime commitments. But it can justify a person’s refusal to accept a same-sex relationship as a marriage.
http://www.slate.com/blogs/saletan/...e_and_interracial_marriage_are_different.html

And of course I would go further and say that everyone still believes marriage is a sexual institution. If it wasn't a sexual institution then limiting marriage to opposite-sex partners wouldn't be discriminating against gays.

Why is it nothing more than a bully tactic? White people were content to live apart from black people and consider them irreversibly different until they interacted with them and realized they were actually good people. Straight people were content to live apart from gay people and consider them irreversibly different until they interacted with them and realized they were actually good people. Exposure to people from a culture you don't typically interact with does a lot to dispel internal prejudices you've established about those cultures absent any examples to the contrary.

My point is, if there is any truth to what TH posted about support waning, (especially this quickly) then the logical conclusion is that it was only the "flavor of the month", and when a new flavor comes out, people like that.

Fwiw, I don't think support is "waning", but if it is, it probably isn't because people are tired of pro-gay bullies -- they simply are looking for the next best thing to latch on to.

EDIT: For example, right now..polygamy isn't universally accepted, perhaps by folks like you.

But once it hits the political cross-hairs, you bet your arse the same people condeming it would be full-blown accepting it.

Herd mentality, dude...its the way of life.

And it's absolutely none of your damned business what people do in their bedrooms amoung consenting adults.

Really?

Tell me again why it is illegal to have a prostitute over and share some homemade whiskey?

If I want to pick up a $20 whore, bring her home, have her give me a blowjob while I sip on homemade moonshine, what business is it of the government?

But yet such activity is illegal.

Living an immoral lifestyle should not be a civil right. This is something you decide to do.

TH, I think you're probably a decent guy in real life. But you need to let go of the hatred. Everyone has their own view of morality, and the majority of people in this country seem to not care if two people of the same sex love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together as a married couple. Your morals are tainted by religion. Where has judging other's morality gotten you in your life? How has everything turned out using your moral compass? Let go of the hatred, you're going to be standing on the wrong side of history. Let those who love each other express it the same way you or I would celebrate our love for someone that we'd like to spend the rest of our lives with. Just because it is odd and quite foreign to you and I doesn't make it wrong.

Thank you, but I stopped reading when you mentioned religion.

See post 55 above.

If what adults do in their bedroom is none of my business, why can't I bring a $20 whore home and share some homemade whiskey?

There are all kinds of laws that invade upon our privacy. But yet gays want special treatment?

I can see prostitution being legalized much easier than I can see the clock being rolled back against gay marriage.

Which is actually an excellent argument against same-sex marriage. Marriage is all about society caring about other people's relationships.

And can you say "AMEN BROTHER"?

They are so pissed off there about gay marriages like Takeahiker is, that they simply had to manufacture and rig a nice, biased poll against it. Because who asked them to take their biased gay marriage poll besides other religious wackos that manage and direct their social policy initiatives and work there? And how is that not completely obvious? Do I need to spend a few hours digging up all the various paid directors and managers religious affiliations to make a point I already know is a fact just to convince you? I got better things to do with my time, thanks anyhow.

Pew has a long track record of impartial and effective scientific polling. Polls are easy to accept when they tell you what you want to hear, but that doesn't mean that they suddenly become invalid when they tell you something you don't.

I will support gay rights when they support my privacy rights.

Right now this is a one way street. Gays want their rights, but they are not sharing the love.

I subscribe to a certain gay activist on facebook. He post stuff about transexuals, gay couples just all kinds of stuff, but never about polygamy, drug use, prostitution,,,, nothing but his own special interest.

His only interest is what matters to him, and not what benefits society as a whole.

Yes, it's the gays keeping prostitution and moonshining illegal as hostages for their continued war on marriage.

Tell me about the various civil rights laws, did they address everyone with a disability, or just blind people, just people with hiv, just people in a wheelchair, just certain minorities,,,?

Or did the civil rights laws improve the lives of everyone with a disability and all minorities?

What would happen if blacks started a movement asking for equal rights, but only for blacks. No asians, no women, no gays, nobody with disabilities, nothing but blacks would be included in this law.

Wouldn't a law that targets a certain group be seen as a form of discrimination?

Projection much?

The poll is only as subjective and nonbiased as the pollster is. Since you obviously missed it last time, who do you think wanted this poll done besides the baby Jesus loving Pew people?

How about we pass a law that says only white males can own property. How about it, you in? No blacks, no women, no asians,,,, nobody but white men can own property.

That is what gays want, right? They want their own rights but screw everyone else.

We are told this is a privacy issue. What gays do in their bedroom in none of your business. What abut my rights and my privacy? Am I not as deserving as a gay person? Surely I have a right to privacy also?

Their question wording and methodology for this survey are publicly available:

Can you point to what your issue is?

Additionally, Pew does polls about general topics of interest constantly, this is nothing new.

And you're smart enough to know that the morals people hold via their religion have no place in the creation/enforcement of laws in this country.

You can call it bullying if it makes you feel better but really all it is is having the government provide equal rights and protections to all citizens of this country.
