Ummmmm, why in the hell would they have copy protection for freeware?

Because if they dont, people use the demo to crack the retail version fo the game. Safedisk, securRom, and starforce all require the demo to be protected as well.

has anyone else had a problem with the game running at extremely low FPS. I mean it is unplayable and probably around the 2-5 FPS. I don't understand because even if I turn everything down, it stays the same. There has to be something wrong, no reason my computer should play company of heroes fine, and this demo can't even get 10 FPS.

I am running Vista with the 7.1 ATI drivers.

One of the best RTS made in the last 5 years. Its the most modable RTS game made to date as well. Most people disappointed with SupCom are the ones with the slow 5 year old rigs that expect to play a next gen game with no lag. Supcom is the next gen Half Life of RTSes when it comes down to online play and modability.

it looks cool, but even so, the game lacks character. i do enjoy the fact that my units address me when playing starcraft/warcraft. also, the i don't like the attack function - units will attack an area, rather than move to that area and attack anything on the way. i think it'll be plenty successful, but i don't think i would enjoy the game overall. i'll play skirmish over the weekend and see if i think otherwise

I don't understand your comparison to Half-life. Unreal and Quake got more mods and had better online play between them

And to everyone disappointed, the only thing it ever had going for it was the scale. Even the previews like at Gamespy said that. What else were you expecting?

mobile barton?
i also had a 2.2ghz barton, haven't really got a benchie comparison but counterstrike source is definetly much smoother on my 805d @3.1ghz and thats with azureus and a buncha other things running at the same time thanks to dual core.. still have to test it out on supreme commander. i did suffer some framerate issues so far, but i havent' tried running with it alone yet. will try later. since it uses multiple cores i probably can't spare the other one for other apps with this game heh

I like the TA unit's ability to move and shoot. Realistically, who stands still, takes fire, and doesn't shoot back?

Meh, the demo runs choppy as all get out on my system w/ an OCed E6600 and a 8800GTS at 1680x1050 - maybe it's a Vista issue but everything else runs without a hitch so I don't lay the blame on Vista. Also, the dual monitor option seems to be pretty useless since you can't really do much with the strategic map that's planted on the second monitor. And it's just not very fun. Overall gets a  from me.

The framerates in the campaign are horrible for some reason, but the skirmish runs a lot better. However, the game in general feels very slow paced, much more than even TA. I loved TA back then but was finding the skirmish in this a bit boring. It will definitely take some getting used to.

i dont like how it takes forever for some units to build (tier3 naval). i mean yeah, im sure they're badass, but good lord - tier3 land is <1minute game time and tier3 air is <5minutes game. then i attacked the computer and somehow won.... i honestly dont know how, it just said "AI defeated". the most annoying thing though - attacking units i cannot see and having them appear as tiny grey squares... wtf!

The computer player in the demo is dummed down a great deal. Even when the AI coding wasnt even complete in beta when you unlocked the AI and put it on Hard it was almost impossible to beat. 20 mins in the game for example it would rush you with 2-3 experimentals. For those that find the gameplay mediorce its hard to judge the game without playing online against players. The engine in this game is revolutionary and there will be many mods and custom addons to the game in the future. If you want to play a RTS with the best engine to date, great multiplayer, and continuous stream of new content and mods then SupCom is for you.

Played the beta and the demo. Love the game and will be buying it. My suggestion would be if you have not tried it yet, download it! See for yourself wether or not you like it.

Runs great for me.

System specs in sig - running vista 64 bit retail

Anyone else running the game with a Dual Monitor setup?

The dual monitor mode is incredible; makes me wish every RTS past, present and future would include something of it. I usually keep it with a fully zoomed out tactical map on my secondary monitor; while my primary monitor is zoomed in and does all the building/close up looking, etc. Of course, both monitors can zoom in and out, function independently or work with the hot keys. It's so useful being able to build a scout and send it to patrol to the other side of the map without ever zooming out.

The game is only getting a mediocre framerate for me; but my system is getting rather old. Not to mention the fact that I *am* running the game at 2560x1024; which is twice what i run most games at. The Skirmish AI makes no sense in the demo though; easy is pathetic, medium is pathetic, and hard is way too ****** hard. Still; it is basically TA2 which is more than enough to make me rush out and buy the game the second it appears in stores.

Tried the demo, and wasn't impressed. The UI takes almost 1/2 of the screen. WTF? Starcraft's UI was bloated, but this one's insane. I was really looking forward to this game, but the demo is underwhelming. Maybe I haven't figured out all the stuff... like how to use this "ferry" command for the transport. They should've included a tutorial mission on the demo to showcase all their "innovation" in the gameplay.

I would love to try out the dual monitor setup. Constantly switching from tac-map back down to the field is annoying. Homeworld 1/2 was kind of like that, but at least the action weren't super fast-paced like this one.

I have a couple of questions on the demo:

1. At the point that Dostya gives you the plans for the T1 Land Factory and you have to take out the three UEF outposts with point defenses, is there an efficient way of doing this?

There are interceptors patrolling the whole area with an AA site in the central outpost, so you can't send in a fleet of interceptors to clear out the air cover so that your bombers can take out the north and south outpost point defenses.

I was thinking that this was going to be a sort of intro as to "why you need artillery," but the Medusa Artillery does not outrange the UEF point defenses. I looked at one of the online unit databases, and the Medusa and the UEF point defense both have 30 range. What's the point of the T1 artillery if it doesnt outrange the T1 point defenses?

I ended up just massing like 25 light assault bots and rushing the point defenses and using the mobile AA to clear out the interceptors.

2. How the eff do you use the ferry functionality on the transports?

Also: I noticed a bug.

I used my commander to capture one of the UEF aircraft repair/refuel pads and landed two of my bombers on it. I couldn't seem to control them afterwards.

Unfortunately Cybran Artillery is the worse in the game. What I did was use bombers to blow a hole in the wall and then send in the cavalry through the hole (walls are weak against explosives).

As for dual monitor, I wish I had two monitors =/. I do use the splitscreen mode which is pretty cool on its own (press Eome to enable, End to turn off).

well played it without running other stuff, it runs pretty smooth even after i apparently hit unit limit. still have issues with the game play, perhaps it would be better if i had a 30" lcd, i have to zoom out way too much most of the time.

somehow yea it does feel like its just something that came out in the 90's like starcraft but in 3d. kind of odd.

i played some more skirmish.. my initial impressions still stand: the units lack character, and the gameplay is too slow. it takes literally FOREVER to build stuff, even when i have multiple tier3 engineers + ACU on something (and no net loss of power or mass). im sure plenty of people will enjoy the game, but this definitely isn't for me.
