That's an interesting idea. It would get abused, but that might not be such a bad thing either.

That's a great idea and I have no doubt the GOP will implement it as soon as there's a Dem POTUS. The left keeps coming up with all these great ideas the right proceeds to adopt and crank up to WMD levels, it's like they're the weapons lab for the nutbar right.

Trump this, Trump that.

You guys do realize there's an entire political party out there, yes? One with control of the Senate. Whatever happens falls on them.

Correct. The GOP Senate will rubber stamp any right wing ideologue Trump nominates & that will be that.

The names floated so far, and the ones favored to receive the nomination, all have links to Kennedy. It seems Trump secured the retirement by promising to nominate someone that will preserve Kennedy’s legacy. Hardly ideological. Quite practical actually.

Yes, quite practical to agree to any "deal" Trump might offer. It's not like he has a history of breaking more deals than he keeps.

You're pumping sunshine up everybody's skirts, right?

Trump's defining feature is that he lies. That's right! That's what he does. There's no reason to think he made an exception with Kennedy.

That is all good and well, but nothing matters but the actual nomination. No one, not even Trump I suspect, knows what Trump will do until he does it, and even then it is questionable if he actually meant to do what he did or not.

The primary goal for Trump here is to get a new Justice on the bench who will take us back to the time when a woman could be forced by the government to bear and raise her rapist's child.

I wonder if billions of dollars connect Trump to Kennedy...

In a sane world this would be a very powerful argument, especially considering it is fairly likely that before this is all over SCOTUS will have to make some sort of ruling that could lead to the president’s impeachment (or worse). Should someone be appointing their own future judge?
If both of Trump's appointees have to recuse themselves for his trial... that gets fascinating.

20 names have been out for 2 years, the other 5 names that were added have been out for a year and a half. No rubber stamp, but full on approval.

That in no way contradicts what I said. It's the GOP list in the first place, tailored to give them the Justices they want. There's no way McConnell will turn away a Trump nominee unless it's revealed that they're a baby raper or something.

As long as there is an ongoing investigation (Mueller),
There can be no nomination!

By that logic, Hillary should not have been allowed to run while she was under investigation, i.e., the primaries. Oh, silly me, I forget that with some of you, the rules only apply to the other team. See, I'm fair. I still believe in that constitutional thingy about being innocent until proven guilty, i.e., accusation !+ guilt irrespective of who's being accused. It's certainly fine to have beliefs about said guilt or innocence, but whatever. I'm down to about one frayed thread of caring anymore.
