That stolen seat is going to really pay off now. Go team!

And pissed-off Bernie voters that told me "Both parties suck, I'm voting Johnson"...I hope your kids tell you repeatedly how much you fucking suck in the decades ahead.
Exactly as they realize they can't sue for the botched c section and massive overbilling by the insurance company for the baby they didnt want to have but were forced to by the state due to a biased slanted arbitration agreement that is airtight. In fact they can't even talk about it as the arbitration agreement has a gag clause. Which is all legal because right wing justices interpret the Constitution literally and it doesnt say anything about private gag laws, forced abitration , companies and dark money or abortion!!!

That's quite the extreme position. I'd be happy to hold a hearing for any SCOTUS nominee with the name Merrick Garland.

I'd say there's a 60% chance Kennedy announces his retirement tomorrow. Supposedly, the GOP short list is limited to Kennedy's clerks, but that doesn't mean shit to DJT. He'll nominate whomever he wants, or whichever name the PACs and lobbyists whisper the most.
Why is that so extreme? If Mitch held it up for 1 year what wrong for holding up 1.5 years?

The Democrats don't have any moves.

The best thing we can hope for is for someone to be nominated quickly and accepted quickly. Otherwise we are looking at probably the highest turnout out for mid terms in US history, instead of a blue wave.

Thought y’all were the high road party. And set on governance. And all that.
The party that took the high road lost because too many worthless pieces of shit decided that the lowest road in American history through the sewers was what they wanted. So screw em. They want a fight, I say lets give them a fight. No holds barred. No Nazis coddled anymore.

A new justice will be confirmed well prior to the midterms. It's a virtual certainty.

Lol, you think the Republican leadership doesn't know what motivates their base? Please. This isn't cut and dry and its certainly not like Republicans are above politicizing the nomination.

This country is headed for some really dark times. Hopefully it will come out OK, we'll see. Keep your skills sharp so you have options though.

The rush will be on for states to outright ban abortions or place severe restrictions once they have a hard right judge in to replace Kennedy.

This is going to be nightmare.

This. What a wonderful excuse to rile up the base and improve midterm turnout. This is beyond great for the GOP.

I agree with you on this simply because it appears to be something all GOP politicians can agree on.

If you had to bet on which would come first an immigration bill or this confirmation, the choice is obvious right? In fact I'm not exactly sure what the last bill that was actually passed in Congress was.

Mitch is a gambling man but not with the Kennedy seat. Overturning Roe, whatever ends up being left of the ACA, and probably Obergefell is candy conservatives can't resist.

Kennedy retirement rumors have been going on for like 2 years off and on. If he does retire doubt it will be immediate.

Politically could be giving the Dems a window to take back the senate and force Trump to nominate someone with at least his social sensibilities. Really doubt he’s eager to watch Roberts overturn his legacy as quickly as cases allow.
If the Dems can't figure out how to use this in their campaigns, I give the fuck up.

Young women largely didn't bother voting in 2016. We'll see if they reconsider for future elections.

Old guard needs to turn over to the younger progressives. They're louder and would be more effective to mobilize absent young voters.

Well, this is not shocking to anyone.

U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, who is also a member of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, just released a statement calling on the Senate to wait to consider President Trump's nominee to replace Justice Kennedy until the new Congress is seated in January.

He cited precedent set by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's refusal to hold a vote on Merrick Garland.

"Senator McConnell set the new standard by giving the American people their say in the upcoming election before Court vacancies are filled," Durbin said. "With so much at stake for the people of our country, the U.S. Senate must be consistent and consider the President’s nominee once the new Congress is seated in January."
