There are various clock "apps" that are nothing more than a tile that shows the time. Stupid that MS doesn't let you display time.

Silly question - is there a way to get the clock on my main start screen in metro mode??

Search "start clock" in the store. I do not use it, but others like you have put up stuff in the store. You might find one to your liking there. Otherwise, a quick right edge swipe would reveal the time, no matter what environment you are in (desktop or modern).

Also, there's gotta be a better way to accomplish this task

1) Take screenshot of desktop in metro
2) Tag it up using stylus. HTF DO I DO THIS? FreshPaint sucks balls for this purpose.

Possibly paste into any paint program (the default MS Paint still exists by default) on the desktop and draw on it? I can come to that conclusion. Otherwise, Paint.NET (no relation to Microsoft), GIMP, and other software are out there. I do not think there is a comparable application in any app store of any kind that can do the two.

A desktop drawing and painting program I use (it is very simple, but at $40 it is well worth it) is Art Rage 4. Layers, some basic but versitle brushes, pen, and pencil modes. Plus rulers and templetes.

Though maybe for the 1 and 2 above, OneNote possibly.

No it's not.

1)Way overpriced for what it is
2)Windows 8 (nuff said there)
3)A more powerful laptop can be bought for the same price. Even an Apple laptop(during sales). Which is miles better than a surface.

lol yawn, disregarding

Not sure if you mean taking a picture of your start screen or your actual desktop. For actual desktop, you can use the good ol' snipping tool (just type snip from the start screen) which lets you capture a screen, window, or area, and then supports the pen for marking it up after the fact.

For doing the same with a metro screenshot...I dunno...MS Paint was my first choice when I tried to do something similar.

Story time:
So I was in a(nother) meeting today. The presenter was doing some work and needed to go to a link - they failed miserably. The work supplied laptop could not connect to the work wifi (this happens to me on my work laptop as well - the HP wifi card blows or something).

I'm sitting there with my SP2 like "no problem"; I'm already connected to the work wifi - yes, the SP2 is better at connecting to my work wifi than the employer supplied work laptops. I hit remote desktop (I configured it earlier in the morning), got to my desktop where all my necessary links are, and relayed the information to the larger group.

SP2++

Things learned today: pen input does not work in RDP mode

Metro. Snipping tool automatically brings you back into desktop mode - snipping would work if it kept me in Metro mode.

Link to this article?!

I can't find the exact article I was reading, but if you google for "hidden windows 8 features" and "hidden windows 8.1 features", you'll find several articles. A lot of the articles have the same features but almost every article lists a couple features not in the other articles. Spending 10-15 minutes reading them, I picked up some cool stuff I had no idea about.

sc2 apparently not compatible with full screen mode, but feels pretty good so far in windowed mode. speakers are pretty good, way louder than the ipad speaker.

Yes. This is really happening right now

Pretty crazy story to report. I had pre-ordered a 64GB SP2 from Microsoft.com and got it on launch day. Have been loving it ever since; it really is a fantastic machine that has done well for me both at home and on the road.

Yesterday, I woke up and went to turn on my SP2 from sleep. Nothing. I tried to power the machine on for a good 20 minutes. The battery was fully charged from the night before. Nothing was happening at all - nothing on the screen, etc., but the Type Cover 2 would light up occasionally.

I brought it to my MS store. The computer turned on perfectly, as if nothing had happened, and the problem was not replicatable. That said, they agreed to swap it out, but were unable to because they were completely out of stock and backordered. After a brief chat with the manager, we had agreed that I would receive the first 64GB model to arrive as a replacement for my machine.

He then told me to quickly hold on, and went to the back. He came back with a 512GB model, and offered it to me for the 128GB price. $100 upgrade for a machine that costs $1800? DONE. I took it without blinking, and with my student discount ended up paying $900 + tax for the 512GB Surface Pro 2. Insane deal.

I also grabbed Microsoft Complete. Not a huge fan of warranties but considering it covers drops and spills and because the unit is basically not repairable, a direct swap out for a new/refurb is attractive to me.

Great day all around.

I can't find a 256 or 512 model in stock anywhere!

Hats off to you.

I've heard conflicting messages on the SP2 and Office. Does it or does it not come with a fully activated version? I plan on buying 3 of these for more children this Christmas and may go with the non pro just for the free Office.

Does not come with, however there is a package for 279 iirc (or 299), that includes a Type Cover 2, Incipio Screen protector, Office 365 (5 computers) for 1 year, and Microsoft Complete (2nd year extended warranty).

i think he was referring to ibex, not you. i.e.) you should add ibex to the ignore list because of his ignorant views on windows 8

WHAT!?

link?!

I went to the Microsoft Store Kiosk, and they offered it to me, but it seems like the website is offering it too.

On the Surface order page:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/html/pbPage.PDPS/productID.286866600

Bundle and save over $75 Add Office 365 Home Premium, Complete for Surface Pro 2-year warranty, Touch Cover (Cyan), and Surface Pro Screen Protector.**

Add $269.00, regularly $348.97

That one is the Touch cover -- however if you're in Microsoft store, you can get the Type cover 2 bundle for 299. (Just looked at my receipt.

Keep in mind, Office 365 allows five TRANSFERRABLE licenses to devices. The free Office is either locked to the Surface RT and Surface 2 or it is only one seat license. If you have three people, it is better to have the 365 version on any device of your choice.
