One more - is there a stock video editing app (e.g. iMovie equivelent...)? If so, how is it?
Messed with a Surface Pro 2 at Frys the other day- very impressive. For drawing, it would be nearly perfect. My only issue is Microsoft is kinda stupid about being able to toggle touch with pen input so that there's no problem with palm interference when drawing. Other than that, nearly perfect drawing tool.
Windows Movie Maker, but let's put it this way if someone made you use it for more than one or two basic cuts, you'd be running to the store to get a Mac, or at least a commercial app like Premiere Elements. iMovie is on another plane of existence, especially since it also has more fully realized companion tools (GarageBand and iPhoto).

Frys had the 64GB Pro 2 on sale for $549 (plus another $30 for the pen sold separately for that model) and I was severely tempted- almost reached for my wallet, but then I was thinking that 64GB just might not cut it for me. And eventually they'll come down even more, or used ones will pop up.

How is the keyboard? I love the form factor, but that worries me.
Oh... and I hated Metro/Modern UI with a passion, but Windows 8.1 is growing on me.
Type keyboard 2, is actually quite nice, not as deep as an ultrabook, but full-sized and pleasant to type on accurately.
It is very nice to type on. I really like the keyswitches that they put into it.
My only malfunction was that I'm still used to long throw full-size keyboard switches having never really used a laptop or other small/portable keyboard previously. I had a lot of issues at first but once I got used to the reduced effort/finger throw its much faster and I make significantly fewer typing errors.
Yeah, I thought it was a mistake (and knowing Frys, probably it is) but I asked a salesperson to check, and make sure it was the Surface PRO 2 and not the Surface 2. She double-checked it, and insisted to me the 64GB *Pro* 2 was $549. Heh. Now I'm thinking I should take advantage of that before they realize that someone probably f'ed up on that. (Frys in Manhattan Beach, CA)Wow doesn't the base model Surface Pro 2 (64GB) go for $899? $549 is a great price.

Quick "hidden" tip - If you don't use the media function keys, you can hit Fn + Cap lock, and it'll revert it back to regular F1/F2/F3/F4 as default commands -- And engage the media keys as "backup" when you hit the Fn Key.
it's $899 from the ms store website:

I wouldn't use it primarily as a laptop- but when sitting anywhere watching a movie or when needing super battery life- a dock is amazing. Or when you need additional ports... They could even go the route of AMD's failed boost using a fan when docked.
The OG transformer got double battery life with dock- imagine the possibilities of the surface with 12ish hours of battery life- hell even price the dock at 200-250 I'll buy it.
It's at least $1,300 for the configuration in the OP (256GB).
I found out about that in an article about hidden features. It makes me very happy, I hated having the F-keys secondary to the media/control keys.
Speaking of the keyboard, have you noticed any issues with the keyboard re-activating when you flip it back around from tablet mode into laptop mode? I used it in class today and a couple times they keyboard was dead and I had to pull it apart and let it snap back together to get it to wake up.
I'm very happy with the battery life and performance. I setup a custom super battery saver mode I used today. I was in class for 6 hours and it was being used in various ways for about 5 of those hours. I got home and I was at 46% battery left. And, of course, it still outpaced the new quad core i7 macs that the college has (I'm thinking entirely due to the SSD).
<3 Surface Pro 2
i wouldnt spend that much on a surface. surface is basically windows nexus without a discount, its only a matter of a little time until other companies come out with more interesting stuff for a lot less. theres even going to be an intel ipad soon
