Burgs, a nine year veteran of the Pembroke Pines Police Department, has been placed on suspension with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Law enforcement, and almost anyone that works for the government, has become a separate class unto themselves, complete with their own rules and judicial outcomes. It really should not be surprising, everytime an officer is found "not guilty" due to lack of evidence for a murder or other crime only serves to embolden future crimes by those who are supposed to uphold the law.

I really wish there was a division of the FBI dedicated to investigating crimes by law enforcement. It is quite clear that between the "thin blue line" BS and the police relationship with prosecutors that this problem will only get worse.

I hope I am wrong and this is not a trend on the rise, but rather a result of our 24 hour news cycle and that we simply hear about these kind of things more often now.

That's a union thing, when a UAW member is on investigative leave they get pay too.
