I know, all this praise for Reagan. Please. He was a dimensia stricken fool, responsible for the ridiculous items Red mentions above, as well as Iran-Contra. He happened to be in office when the Soviets finally ran out of money, so he's the greatest human being ever to grace the Earth? BZZZZZT. I don't THINK so.
Actually when compared to the Dub he does come across as a great man. Until the end of his second term when dementia started to take it's toll on him, Reagan displayed the ability to adapt and learn on the job, something that the Dub can't seem to do.

Regarding his dealings with the Soviets, what made him successful is that he had a great Counterpart in Gorbachev who was willing to overlook Reagan's ignorant rhetoric and connect with Reagan on a personal level which helped educate Reagan and led to a viable solution to the problems between the two Super Powers and the eventual downfall of the Soviet Union as a Totalitarian State.

It almost pains me to say it but Reagan was a borderline great President in comparison to Bush.

Can you imagine Reagan claiming that he's fulfilling his Constitutional duty by unlawfully spying on Americans?

Spying on citizens was what the Evil Empire did and was a major reason that it was Evil. Reagan wouldn't even consider doing it.

So who is exactly spying on United States civilians without a warrant? Or is this just uncomfirmed speculation?

Well nothing is confirmed at the moment, but the recent story about the NSA raises some questions.

How does that math work to make W the least popular? JFK, Clinton, and Reagan take 74% of the vote, leaving 26% left. If W took 9% that means the worst he could be is 4th out of 10.

As far as the other numbers, no complaint...but part of the first sentence is misleading.

Actually, 5th out of 10 if one of the other past presidents took more than 9% out of the 17% remaining. Still, it would be impossible for him to be LAST as far as I can tell.

Haha, for some reason I was thinking only 2 spots were taken and the person who got 9% or over was third. Anyway, the worst he could do was 5th. Nice catch

Where does the constitution grant the right of privacy?

I think the 4th Amendment prohibits spying on Americans without any sort of warrent. Perhaps it's not "privacy", but still, not exactly legal.

Actually the Supreme Court has said the constitution does protect our right to privacy.
In fact Roe vs Wade was decided on privacy...

The United States Supreme Court recognized that a woman?s right to decide whether to continue her pregnancy was protected under the constitutional provisions of individual autonomy and privacy.

Dude, the NSA is obviously spying on US citizens. Bush's "secret" executive order was necessary b/c it is a clear violation of US law.

Oh I agree, I'm just saying that the right against illegal spying by the government is even more fundamental than the right to privacy.

I find it interesting that modern Presidents often receive higher praise then far greater leaders that preceeded them.

Washington tops my list, because after the Revolution, many of the wealthy elite wanted to crown him King George...had Washington allowed his fame and military successes to feed his ego, there would be no America.

Lincoln gets my number two for leading our nation through what was probably the most critical defining moment for American society...mainly the Civil War.

FDR gets the number three spot for what should be obvious reasons.

I don't understand why people worship JFK, Clinton, Reagan or Dubya...none of them were particularly outstanding, and I imagine 100 years from now, they won't be remembered for much other then their blunders.
