If you like survival horror you will love this movie. I am a big fan of zombie/infected/crazed lunatic with axe movies especially when the have a survival element thrown in.

The movie is about a town in Alaska that is completely cut off from the rest of the world for 30 days during the year. During this time the sun never comes out... A perfect time for vampires to attack.

The movie was a great start to my annual horror movie marathon. Next up is 1408 and Event Horizon.

Event Horizon really scared the crap out of me way back when, I should really rent it soon.

What really got me puzzled is that opening music for Event Horizon was done by Orbital. None of their music sounded as good as the Event Horizon score.

As a fellow horror movie fan, 1408 was horrible.

That really is a classic. It was largely unappreciated when it came out, I guess because it was very graphic for a mainstream movie of that era, but to me it's one of the great horror films ever made. It was the first HD-DVD title I bought, actually.

Might have to rent Thirty Days of Night, sounds interesting.

I just saw Planet Terror a few days ago, and it was almost worth the price of a rental, Death Proof needed about an hour edited out of it, tho. What a bore fest. I fell asleep halfway through it, and had to watch the ending again the next day. That movie should have had the missing reel gag in it, not Planet Terror. What was Quentin thinking in that pile of Death Proof crap? Blockbuster had some nice lobby cards of the 2 movies tho, for $1.99 each and I picked those 4 up for my theater room.

28 weeks later is also a good zombie movie worth a rent for Halloween.

The THING is a classic, for sure. It has a lot of tense horror moments in it.

IMDB user rating: 7.3/10 (5,715 votes). Zoinks! That's better than I would have expected. Must check it out now.

Coincidentally, I have Event Horizon (HD) which I meant to watch last night but didn't get the chance.

I don't recall the original Thing so well, but the remake with Kurt Russel is pretty good. Hey, any flick where Wilford Brimley meets an untimely demise can't be too bad.

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen in terms of plot holes and just plain not making any sense.

It goes like this : Vampires come out of nowhere to destroy the warmest city in Alaska where people don't ever need to eat, sleep or shit. They kill off 90% of the people in first night and then apparently sit back for the next 3 weeks doing nothing. Then, when they find out they missed a few people, the vampires decide to burn down entire city so no one will know what really happened- because fire in Alaska doesn't just burn people, it tears them apart like a vampire would apparently.

They covered the fact that it was a very poorly written script by giving people ultra violence and gore. It is NOTHING like Event Horizon.

Hey, edit your post. You gave away some pretty big spoilers.

Apparently you can't read because the subtitles during the vampire scenes explained it all.

Event Horizon was utter crap. What are you people talking about? So it started out as this great concept. Folding space, etc. Neat ideas. Then it gets into this whole. We folded space and ended up bringing hell into our dimension? WTF? I mean seriously. How much goofier could you get?

Event Horizon was a great movie because I wasn't expecting much out of it. It scared the crap out of me the 1st time I watched it, subsequent viewings were not nearly as good though.
