I only installed SuSE 8.0 yesterday, but if anything's flaky I haven't noticed it yet.
I do feel it isn't as polished as I had hoped. For example, YaST Online Update still seems to suck, and my Orinoco PCMCIA wireless client wasn't setup as smoothly as it should be. Generally speaking, it seems like YaST2 gets better and better, but it's *still* not comprehensive enough and a sysadmin still has to dig through the filesystem to figure out where things need to be tweaked.
Another inconvenience is the new alsa (prerelease version) still has less than 100% SB Live! support. PCM output seems a lot better than the old alsa, but I could not get the mixer to drive adequate volume for the (internal) digital CD audio cable. So I did what I did with SuSE 7.2 and switched to the kernel's OSS SB Live! driver, and the CD audio is fine again. I haven't decided yet whether this is a permanent solution.
I'm a SuSE Linux faithful, but there's definitely still room for improvement. Who knows, I may even give Red Hat or Mandrake another try (but it's rather doubtful I'd replace my day-to-day OS at this time).
Edit:
Speaking of USB mouse, my trusty Logitech MouseMan USB was setup as a cheesy 2-button mouse w/ 3rd-button emulation. I had to manually tweak the XF86Config file.
