i have a 1.4 Tbird with SVC Golden Gate

I must say I'm pleased with everything except for the noise that fan makes.

That fan is one loud mutha (maybe i'm used to my old quiet Classic Athlon 650 with stock heatsink/fan)

specs on golden gate

40.1 CFM, 6800 RPM (although the BIOS says it's ~8100), 48.2 dB (A-weighted) (what's A-weighted anyway?)

Anyway, do you guys have any tips on maybe reducing the noise level?

kthx

Yeah, the thing's like a jet engine. Cools like no tomorrow though. I plan on building a Rheostat for it.

just replace the fan. I got the original Golden gate with the 27cfm double slotted ad staggarded fan that worked well. I currently have a 57CFM 92mm panaflo rigged on it now.

A-weight is a frequency range within the db is rated, theres also B and C. C is better for picking up very high frequency sounds, A is more of a lower pitched, the db range which is most senative to our ears so this one is the scale thats used most of the time.

The PowerCooler 27cfm fan EXman mentioned is not a bad choice, its fairly quiet and quite a bit diffference in loudness compared to that 40cfm YS tech
.... that or either a 26cfm YS tech, or a Delta 30cfm or equivelent, i wouldn't put anything less then the YS tech @26cfm, because of the poor radiating quality of copper and how closely grouped the fins are.

I've got a 1.333/266 Athlon on an ECS k7S5A in an Enlight case. The cooler is the SVC GG 30 (I knew I didn't want the 38 or 40).

The usual (no heavy load) temp. has been running about 45c t0 46c in a 74F house. I have the SVC fan blowing down....

I just tore down an old AT case and installed the 80mm case fan in a blow-hole directly across from the CPU (blowing
in) and instantly reduced the temp. to 40c to 41c. I wanted the fan to blow in, but put it on the first time backwards and
only realized a 2c drop in temps...

The system is fairly quite -- the loadest fan is the 340w Enlight power supply fan.

If you can't stand the noise, perhaps what you can do is to switch the 40cfm YS Tech to a quieter fan and then install a case fan on the back of your casing blowing air in.. This should compensate for the switch to the lower cfm fan.. It works just like what ries experienced.. But of course, this is assuming you currently have your casing covers closed and not already have a large table fan blowing on the innards of your pc..
