i know the ATA100/133 specs call for a maximum length of 18" for the cable... will those 36" ATA133 cables actually run (without significant errors) at ATA133 speeds? what about the 24" cables?

does anyone know for sure/have a url to some testing someone did online/etc??

ps- as always, SVC = good prices & nice products.

Anyone know what are "standard" floppy cable length is?
Anyone know what length cables should be ok for the EVERCASE? (as seen on this website

Yes, AMD does not recommend ide cable over 18" long, but if you have a longer reach to the top bay for say a CD drive, what are you supposed to do? Any thoughts? thanks.........

Also, if anyone has gotten these rounded cables before, are the the soft flexible tubing kind or are they the cheapo stiff kind that some other places sell? Thanks again

I can give a bit of speculation here. I do have two 24" cables running right now, with no noticeable errors. The practicality of 18" cables is flawed for people who have anything larger than a medium size case. I have an Antec 1240, so I almost have to stretch my cables and pray... Let's just say that if 36" cables or 24" cables, for that matter, created data corruption problems then we would be hearing about it would we not? Again, this is all speculation.

Been thinking about buying some of these for a long time.
Don't have any heat issues in my ice cold P4 rig, but they should fix a lot of the clutter in my case.
Thanks for the deal!

The reason that 18" cables are spec'd is because the cable itself acts as a reciever for EMI and other such artifacts. The longer the cable, the more it can pull in. The silver cables should be better, as all 40 of the ground cables are connected to the silver braiding, creating a shield for the data cables within ( atleast on good quality silver cables )

The ata 66 - 133 spec has alternating ground and data wires, so that the grounds will isolate the data lines from each other to help control artifacts. When the cable is split, that help goes away as the grounds do not alternate any more.

That being said, I have used both 24 and 36" cables with no ill effects.

I just ordered it too. Although I did put in my comments section that if it wasn't a 68pin male connector to exclude it from my order.

Can anyone recommend a good / reliable place that sells SCSI Terminstors? Newegg just sold out on theirs...

I have no interest in the cables but I do like the clearance on the copper heatsinks. With a few minutes of torch time, I will easily create a water block for my computer. The summer always increases my cpu temps and I refuse to run those high-pitched fans.
