Something is up with SVC and it's looking pretty good! I placed an order on 11/25 for 14 rounded cables (floppy, ide single, ide dual) and they came today by mail. All packaged nice and neat and brand new. I live in the Philadelphia area so it took like 2 days to go from California to eastern PA! I got an email from Tony Luu saying the order was filled and shipped right out the same day. Thanks Tony!!! Looks like I'll be ordering again from SVC, way to go! If all orders are taken care of like mine was, SVC should be changed to SSVC for SUPER SerViCe.......

I gotta agree that things have improved at SVC. Ordered an Alpha PAL8942T on Friday night, received an order confirmation and Priority tracking number late Saturday, and it arrived today! It was packed really well in a sturdy box with tons of peanuts, and they had the best shipped price I could find. Let's hope they keep this up because I wouldn't mind ordering from them again if they continue such excellent service.

I'm also thinking about ordering some cables from them. My question is about their cathode lights. They are suppose to be the new 50% brighter ones. I would like to get a red and blue kit plus an extra red and blue tube. Will the kit come with everything that I need to attach the extra tube? And is the red really red or still pink? I read in an earlier post that someone bought a multicolor cathode in which the red half was pink but I want to know about just the red kit. Thanks

Did anyone order the UV sensitive or glow in the dark cables? If so, what do you think about them? I ordered an SLK-800 and they sent me an SK-7 instead, if they handle their mistake right, i might consider buying some....

Ordered both and they are both good. The glow in the dark ones glow great but need a good bright source of light, like the sun , to "charge".
If you have UV in your case, definitely go with the UV sensitive. The glow in the dark ones you'll only see when your light's off and then only until they lose their charge.

I received a bunch of UV cables.... but.... I am not sure how they look yet. They actually look (although uninstalled yet), just like the silver braided cables. Hope these are the right ones. Will find out as soon as my cathode UV arrives.

So far my orders have been right on.

NO... big myth. I've been using rounded cables of all sorts(hand rounded, machine rounded) for over 2 years. Total transfer- 1.026 Pb. Petabyte=1024 Terabytes... not a bit of data loss....

I ordered two 18" Glo-in-the-dark, one 18" Silver braided, and one 24" Floppy cable on 11/22. Received about 6 days later. Everything came as expected. Haven't installed yet (probably later today), but am happy!

I installed the cables I bought as IDE ATA 100/133, which are supposed to be 80 wire, 40 pin. When I boot up, I get a Warning message, something about usin 40 pin cables that are installed may cause slowdown or something. Are these rounded cables sold as ata 100/133 , 80 pin only 40 pin and not up to the ata 100/133 spec or what?

UPDATE: OK I narrowed this down a bit. It's the cables on the Promise Ultra ATA 100 card. During boot up, Warning message says that my Lite on DVD will only be ultra 33 because I am using 40 wire cable not 80. The DVD is on an 18" SVC single ide ata 100/133 cable on promise card ide 2. There is no error message about my HD which is on the same Promise card but on ide 1 on a 10" SVC ide ata 100/133 cable.
Help?

UPDATE 2: Maybe the Promise Ultra ATA 100 card doesn't recognize these 80 conductor 40 pin twisted pair type of rounded cables as 80 conductor? I'm wondering though why it doesn't give any error message about the hard drive but it does about the cd rom, both on the same ide card? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Wow, SVC is really trying to overcome their previous problems on service...I ordered at 9am and promptly got a follow up personal email msg that my order was shipped thanks to Tony Luu. My previous Round Cable order came in and they are working great. I am switching all of my computers over to these round cables since my systems look so much cleaner...my wife even stopped to look and she hates my computer stuff...the glowing blue leds caught her eye on the fans I bought too...she commented "thats pretty"..haha, then asked when her computer was getting an upgrade, whoa...dont have to ask a geek twice to buy more comp parts and do an upgrade

I placed an order on Sunday(12-1) night. CC charged Monday morning. No notification of shipment. No response to email. We'll see how this turns out.

Update 12-4 Received email from Tony Luu

It appears that people are lagging with your order. I'll check if it goes out today. If it doesn't, then I'll personally package it myself and ship it out myself. I'll make sure of that.

Your fellow Anandtecher,

Tony

P.S. I would handle it today but I have an exam tomorrow. So I need to study!

i just went to their store today and picked up the case, round cable , and floppies. Tell you what? Everything is so perfect. some one have mentioned it doesn't come with the fans. It is not the company's fault. In that case package , it clearly state optional fans. so that means fan doesn't include.

IvIaNTiS:

I bought the blue kit and extra bulb a while back and it does come with everything to connect both bulbs. Don't know about the red/pink deal.

BigEdMuustaffa:

Aren't all cd/dvd-roms ata-33 only? When I was installing a promise 66 card, it said to only connect hard drives to the card and cd/dvd-roms to the ide controller on the motherboard. The warning may be because the dvd is only ata-33 and not the cable.

Hope this helps,

RCraig

If I remember correctly, CD-Roms are ATA33, while DVD-Roms are typically ATA-66

If I remember correctly, CD-Roms are ATA33, while DVD-Roms are typically ATA-66

I was wondering about this. Looked on Neweggs site. Most DVD-Roms don't state ATA-33/ATA-66, just seek times.
I did find this though:

Lite-On 16X DVD ROM Drive OEM (48X CD-ROM) Model LTD-163D...Burst Transfer Rate : Support up to Ultra-DMA/33, 33.3MB/sec...
No mention of 66.

Aopen Internal EIDE 16X DVD ROM / 40X Max CD-ROM Drive ...ATA-33 (33.3 MB/sec), ATA-66 (66.6 MB/sec)...
This was the only drive to specifically mention ATA-66.

I would guess this maybe means it depends on your DVD-Rom whether it is ATA-66 or only ATA-33.

Anyone else with additional insight for BigEdMuustaffa?

ok. i do recall seeing that error myself a loong time ago. but i dont recall what i did to remedy it. try tinkering within the BIOS to manually set the IDE slot to ATA33.

but, i have some rounded cables from SVC and i, too, have a LiteOn dvd-rom. also a Pioneer DVD-RW. both work fine with these ATA133 cables. granted, i didnt put them in my ATA controller card, just the IDE slots on the mobo.

if anything, have you tried setting the BIOS to factory default? it doesnt take but 2 shakes of a lamb's tail to set everything the way you had it again. maybe you changed a setting that is making the drive finicky.

You could ask this over in the tech forums, but anyway - many older CD-Roms use PIO as the transfer standard. Newer ones do support UDMA. You can set this in Windows rather than forcing it in the BIOS. In win2k you just right click on the IDE controller in your system devices, choose properties and in there will be an option that can be set to "PIO" or "DMA if available". Win2k used to default to PIO on CD drives but SP3 seems to use UDMA if available. Anyhoo, in there is where you would choose "UDMA if avaiable" and when you do the required reboot it will use UDMA if your drive supports it (as mine happens to). I remember seeing post on some of the burner boards (cdfreaks maybe?) saying that it wasn't necessarily good to use DMA for transfer but I have always used it since I started using Win2k and never have issues.
Hope this helps.

I have a feeling that this error message has to do with Promise Ultra 100 card, not the cables themselves. The cables all seem to be 80 conductors, there is a red wire if you'll notice at the ends, every 10 wires, so there are 8 red wires, thus 80 conductors. (See, all those math classes really did pay off... ) I don't get the error message on ide 1 of the card with the HD only on ide 2 on the card, which is a dvd rom drive. So...time will tell.....

Third order received. All perfect once again.

You guys that are having trouble with your drives.... just uninstall the drive in Windows and reboot. Try this a couple of times..... until your problem goes away. Its not the cables. Its the os, and resource sharing problems.

I like to buy my round cables, especially the clear shielded type. Regular plain gray cables do not have much in the way of shielding and therefore are more susceptible to data loss/corruption.
