I much prefer the size of the iPad mini over the iPad. That said, I wish the iPad mini had a better resolution. Then again, we have an iPad 2 at home and my wife uses it all the time.

As for Nexus 7 vs. iPad mini, I'd say Apple wins in terms of OS slickness, stability and consistency, and hardware quality. I just prefer the smaller size of the Nexus 7 with higher rez, and the ability to properly play MKV files, including off USB drives.

I think the ultimate tablet is 9.7" ipad w/ ipad mini design/thickness (comparatively based on size).

I bought an iPad mini on launch day and kept it for about a week but didn't like the lower resolution (I read a lot) and don't want to pay a ton for mobile data (on top of my current unlimited LTE no tethering) so it basically stays at home. Additionally, we aren't allowed to have cameras in like 75% of the labs at work so it would just sit at my desk.

My ideal tablet would be iOS (due to previously bought apps) w/ digital stylus so I could take notes/draw normally and no cameras so I can use it all over at work. If that mythical tablet were to exist I would gladly pay for mobile data (or get a MiFi) and cart that thing all over so I don't have to drag around my work issued 200lb 15.4" laptop (feels like its 200lbs anyway), AC adapter, etc. We can just VPN in with a browser for email and stuff and thats really all I need on the go.

I think for day to day tasks the resolution isn't a huge deal- especially on video. However if you read a lot on your tablet you'll really appreciate the increased PPI. Sharp text vs legible text. Just waiting for something like 1080p on a 7" tablet. Probably not until next fall most likely though.

There's been a bit of a hubbub over some recently display technology introductions (such as IGZO), which could certainly help the iPad become much more like the mythical beast that you so desire. As for the camera, I doubt that both cameras will be removed from future tablets. The rear camera might be kind of worthless, but the front-facing camera actually serves a decent purpose (video chat). However, what would happen if you removed the cameras from the iPad? Would it still function? If not, is there a way to possible disable them while leaving them in the device? Maybe the archaic method of a sharpie to the lens?

I would pick iPad mini over iPad if I were to choose. But ideally I would like the best of both worlds -> iPad mini's hardware + Android OS.

LoL- The ipad mini's hardware is terrible these days. The only reason anyone puts up with it is iOS.
