Swapped motherboards: No Internet Now

I went through every step you have and couldn't find the problem till I hit the reset on the router. I'm sorry that this didn't work for you. I was able to access the router and files on my other computer but no internet. Just as a last resort you might try setting the router to default settings if you have that option.

Ok, winipcfg shows same default gateway on both comps. same subnet mask, and of course different IP address. I tried release all/renew all, with no luck. Yesterday, I dumped the router back to defaults, and could not access via the browser (IE 5.5) the router with the problem PC. Yet in command comm I can access the router with the problem pC.

Thanks, and any other ideas (except re-format..hehe) will be tried.

Would have been easier to just ping a host name and IP but by being able to FTP into a site with name as well as the IP means your resolving names so it's probably not a DNS issue. I'd be interested to see if you were to install say a version of netscape or opera from a CD or something if you could use it successfully. Since you have LAN connectivity you could go to one of the machines that has internet connectivity, go to http://ftp.netscape.com then navigate through the public folders and download a version of netscape. Then transfer to the problem machine and install a different browser than IE.

Yeah, i keep thinking about downloading netscape and trying that. Good idea, i'll try that next. But I keep thinking that somewhere deep in Windows that my PCI resources, or something are screwed-up in the registry. I think first i'll try the latest via 4 in 1, maybe that will revaulate my device registry and reset things, I dunno.

Well the Via 4 in 1 thing did'nt work. As fas as trying Netscape, if I can't play games online, would'nt that rule out a browser problem?

Okay.. with his first post you can tell its not a network or dns issue.

He is getting a Error report pop up screen.

Not a page cannot be displayed.

What is that error report pop up screen? Is it an illegal operation?

Can you use email with outlook express at all?

I cannot retreive/send emails. When I try to access the net, I get a cannot find DNS server error with a IE pop-up that proclaims that "the program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down."

The other PC on the network works fine, and I have file sharing to and from both PC's.

This has gone on long enough!

If you change the mobo, you should re-install the OS.

Get out the CD's and reload the OS.

Make a startup floppy and start by running fdisk and create new partitions. You need a clean OS load and ALL of your problems will go away in the 45-60 mins it takes you to reload from scratch.
