swapping out 5870 vanilla for 5770 vanilla

I am going to switch out my 5870 for my spare 5770 in hopes of reducing power consumption as well as save it from idling at 60*c

Can I just swap out the cards? There is no specific driver download for a 5770 vs a 5870.. I'm thinking i wouldn't have to worry ...

my 5770 idles at 40*c so if yours does the same it should be a good improvement (it is vanilla) Are you using multiple monitors if so that will cause your card to raise the clocks a bit and drive your idle temps up. It should just be fine tho, drivers should recognize the 5770

K, thought so on the drivers... i was going to do it anyways but i thought i'd get a heads up first

I think it has to do with Flash I might disable GPU acceleration and see how it does today and if it stays cool i may just keep it in.. i forgot i had my 5770 still hooked into my Q9650 rig: all i need for that rig is to install a drive in it and the box is ready for a monitor KB&M..

it's just standard AMD Catalyst suite, nothing special between 58xx and 57xx.

My 5870 idles around 54c, so maybe your case?

installed 11.2 drivers
5870 still
GPU clock = 600mhz - manually set
Memory clock = 900mhz - manually set
fan @ 24%

volts have not gone > .95v
GPU core @ 43*c with no fluctuation in the past 2+hrs
NorthBridge has not gone any higher than 41*c, currently 38*c (backwards orientation so heat is pushed towards NB) - usually the NB will hit some high temps because of the GPU heating up - NOT NO MORE!! WOO!


all this with the 5870 and manually setting things
