Swat 4

Is swat 4 any good? How does it compare to The Ghost Recon and the Rainbow Six series? Are they similar in style? What can I expect if I have only played HL2 type shooters before?

Dunno bout Ghost Recon, but it was definately better than the Rainbow Six games I played. It's much more realistic than HL2, to the point of which if you get shot you're gone basically. You have to be stealthy and only shoot when shot at. You normally can get a suspect to surrender without killing him, which is how you get the most points. Good thing is, your team is damn good. With most team games you have a problem of stupid AI, but your team knows what to do and follows orders very well. Definitely worth playing.

I have to disagree, I have a bitch of time getting some of the suspects to surrender. I LOVE Swat 4, some of the levels had me pulling my hair out, you die so easy, and the dynamic element when you start a level over make it very difficult because you can't plan for random events.

realistic, your teams AI is pretty good, they do what you ask, the enemy AI is good too, you never know what they'll do. The Hotel level gave me a bitch of a time, as did the laboratory one. I love the game to death and as hard as it is, I still play it. Awesome graphics, great missions, and nothing's as cool as creeping along only to have a crazy ak-47 welding psycho run out of nowhere and start blasting on you.

You can expect slow game play, if you Rambo you die, you need to mirror every door, every corner. The pace can get pretty quick when you bust in room full of baddies, especially if there are hostages in the room. One hostage dies and it's game over

I love the randomness of it. You can replay the same level 50 times and it'll never play out exactly the same. I never actually beat the game I should go load it and try to knock out the last few levels.

if you kill terrorists who aren't shooting at you, it takes points away, you might even finish the level and still loose. But one bug I found, if your snipers see a baddie and you nail them, regardless of if they have a gun out or not, it doesn't effective the outcome of the mission and you can still win

Think I might have to get the demo for this game. I like a tactical shooter every now and then (played the original RB6 and Rogue Spear a lot).. but it may be a bit too much realistic and not enough killing (may just end up playing some Raven Shield or try out Lockdown if there's a demo), but from what you guys said I at least wanna play the demo.

i might pick it up...its only 15 bucks. I would get R6 vegas, but 50 dollars i dont have.

I would have dropped 50 bucks on Vegas, but it requires a SM3.0 video card. That would make the game at least $200 to be able to play it well

and the Swat 4 Expansion is really nice. One thing they change, in the original Swat 4, if a terrorist surrendered they'd get on their knees and stay there for ever basically. In the expansion sometimes even after giving up they will re-grab their weapon and try to shoot you. a little thing, but it add's a lot to the game.

Ahh, Swat 4. I enjoyed the game but never beat it on the highest difficulties.

I dug up a little clip that I recorded with Fraps when I played the game.

It's a great game, but it's very challenging. Nothing like most shooters, it's much slower and methodical.

It's great. Definately can't rambo since they kinda gimped the officer's ability to control weapons: come on, elite swat officer can't control an M4 on a burst of more than 2 rounds? Aside from that, it is funner and more challenging getting people to surrender. I also had trouble doing this, especially after gassing/banging them (ended up executing them since they always recovered shooting, then failed mission). Finally found out how useful the taser and pepper was. If you don't have it, get the Gold version with expansion. Expansion is awesome, adds quite a bit.
