At the end of the day video cards are way over priced right accross the board from both AMD and Nvidia, there is only one thing the general public can do about this and that is to band together and don't buy them from either campany, this does tend to get ther attention after a month of very low sales, and venders complaining.
It works with petrol, food, and goverments, so why not video card companies and CPU companies.
If you want cheaper prices then this is what has to be done, let them know that the craps gone on to long
Does anybody know what the real price of a video card or Cpu is to build, this is cost price per unit. Lets see how over priced they are per unit to the public.

The Iceland(Low-end), Tonga(Mid-end), Maui(High-end) may have the same specifications(ALU, TMU, ROPs, etc) as some Southern Island/Sea Island GPUs. There is a huge thing that differentiates the late 2014 and 2015 GPUs; Iceland, Tonga, Carrizo, Nolan, and Maui from the rest. The rest being the late 2011 to 2013 GPUs; Cape Verde, Hainan, Oland, Pitcairn, Tahiti, Bonaire, Hawaii, Kalindi, Mullins, Spectre, and Spooky.

Take your time to figure it out. It does involve hUMA, HQ, and HSAIL version 1.0.

AMD during their conference call said they are still working on a release of 20nm GPUs this year (I read that brief awhile ago), and this looks to be BS because all these new products about to be outed are still 28nm.

All these new SKUs screams like 20nm is going to be skipped and they are going to jump to 16nm instead.

I was with you but not any longer. The price is what the market will bear. Also we're back to about $200 gets a pretty good card. I prefered when $150 got you a good card but that was a decade ago.

Everyone who has taped out there designs at GlobalFoundries 20nm LPM have already. Iceland and Tonga are Q3/Q4 2014 GPUs. With Maui being a Q1/Q2 2015 GPU and it is only a discrete desktop/workstation GPU.

^-- Look at what it is launching with. (The 2012 is probably a typo it should be 2014 since the document came out 2014)

There is a particularly high chance that Iceland(Topaz) and Tonga(Ameythst) are 20-nm GPUs.

Off-topic: I'm surprised no one has leaked the 16-core Opteron/FX on 20-nm stuff yet.

Ill miss you Fanatical Meat
But look at things this way if your local corner store was selling you dog food at 20 times the value that they purchased it for and you found out, you would change stores and called or class them as a ripoff.
A video card that sells at 6 to 7 hundred dollars new, 2.5 years later sells at 250 to 300
still at a profit, truth is at 50 dollars they still make a profit.
corporate greed is what is causing nation economy to fail.
Here we have a video card worth 1400% more than it is worth to create

No they did not. The specifically said 2014 will be 28nm only.

So in terms of product and technology selection, certainly we need to be at the leading-edge of the technology roadmap. So what we've said in the past is certainly this year all of our products are in 28-nanometer across both, you know, graphics client and our semi-custom business. We are, you know, actively in the design phase for 20-nanometer and that will come to production. And then clearly we'll go to FinFET. So that would be the progression of it.

I don't see how this is related to Tonga/Ameythst XT/Pro or Iceland/Topaz XT/Pro.

Just for you I am pretty sure that there will be No New GPUs from AMD for the Bulk of 2014.

It's not like anyone else is releasing 20nm FPGAs, SoCs, and other forms of ASICs around Q3 and Q4 2014. You know like Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek. These guys are definitely not coming out with 20nm SoCs. That is impossible even though TSMC, Samsung, and GlobalFoundries has had 20nm PDKs at final specification for at least several months now.

You are right .

But honestly, what we need right now is MORE POWAH.

I personally don't care about efficiency and there are already many efficient cards on the market to satisfy everyone.

50 Watts =

(This bulb must also be 0 watt on idle )

You must see the electrical bill here in Brazil .

Efficiency gets you more power in the end Just imagine how bright a 50W LED would be!

Won't be able to do much until they get a die shrink or two though.
