I have no problems with the test and would applaud others sites to do similar things for their readers actually. It's that type of testing and going a bit extra for their readers is why I like HardwareFR. More data is always welcomed and as long as the site takes logical steps to try to create apples-to-apples - I'm all for it!

It seems valid data that tell us the temperature the cards (and not only the GPU core) can achieve and the effect it has on the case interior.

And the site refrains from doing any considerations other than maybe a front exhaust fan might be a better solution for the 6990.

Other than that not much.

I think it's a bit more than that. If it were only that, there wouldn't be this lengthy un-endable debate for literally hundreds of posts. It's a bit more than that.

But it is end-able. Outside of opinion there has been no science to prove that cool spot is a fan. It's just wishful thinking being propagated by known nvidia supporters. There is nothing wrong with someone defending their product of choice, but trying to associate their desires with facts isn't going to get us anywhere.

1. Technically black body radiation is a wave... but it will travel in a generally straight line.
2. Convection is not radiation... when we say heat is "radiated" we typically mean to say "heat is transfered to surrounding fluids substances via convection" not "heat is converted into black body radiation and emitted as photons"

Also, as a nuclear engineer with MSc in physics I must add that while radiation does not "bend" radiation transport can. Lets say you have a hot object and 2 cold objects which are inline. It is not accurate to say that the father of 2 cold objects will not have an increase in temperature. This is because heat radiating from the hot object will heat up the 1st cold object and then the heat radiating from the 1st "cold" object will heat up the 2nd cold object, because now the temperature of 1st cold object is higher than that of the 2nd cold object.
