All you Dreamcast owner go to Sega Store and pick this up. I don't think you can get these from retailers before mid April. The price may be a bit high but imagine playing Dreamcast games over the net in high speed

And Phantasy Star Online is coming out 1/31

This is pretty cool... Am I correct in assuming that I could hook this up to my LAN and, using the Web Browser that came with the DC, surf the net using my Cable ISP (Cox@Home)?

That sounds great... I may not play on-line games with it, but surfing from the living room at high speed would be pretty cool!

A few clarifications...

The release date is 5/10 - for retail sales. Until then, it is only available directly from Sega, via sega.com.

Games must have broadband support (drivers) to work with it. So, most existing games DO NOT. Quake 3 Arena and "POD: Speedzone" support ethernet. The upcoming Unreal Tournament and Phantasy Star Online will also have ethernet support.

The current Sega Web Browser (2.6 was included in the latest Dreamcast Magazine) does not support ethernet. Version 3.0 is supposed to support it, but it must not be ready for prime time, as it was not included with the adapter.

You've never needed Sega.net to play online. I've been playing on my dreamcast online for two months, using any old dial-up ISP...

What I really want to know, is when is Sega going to release the Web Browser 3.0, because I like using my Dreamcast to surf the 'Net. And doing so using my DSL connection and my 32" WEGA would be spiffy...

Found on the NY Times web site::::

January 30, 2001 Sega Expected To Dump Dreamcast

NEW YORK (AP) -- Sega Corp. was expected to announce plans Wednesday to abandon the production of its Dreamcast video-game machine and to slash prices by a third to $99 to get rid of excess inventory, according to sources familiar with the plan.

The Tokyo-based company will then focus its efforts on developing and supplying its home software games to such rival companies such as Sony Computer Entertainment and Nintendo Co.
...
Sega, which has been losing money for years on sluggish game-machine sales, is forecasting $202 million in losses for the fiscal year ending in March. It posted losses of about $342 million for the previous fiscal year.

........... etc.

man just enter your info like normal. cant be banner account tho.

and sega just partnered with a company. do you think they would have signed if sega was to stop production. SO NO MORE SEGA DEAD stuff, its all a lie.

<< Everyone thinks the Dreamcast is dead, whether it's MTV News or CNN. Well, that's just not the case, as the Dreamcast will live on, especially with SEGA's newest partnership with Pace Micro Technology. >>

PS2 sucks....long live dc

For those of you planning on getting the Broadband Adapter just for Phantasy Star Online ... be careful. The Japan version doesn't support the adapter, and although Sega US is claiming the domestic version will, there have been many conflicting answers.

It's RARE for a game to have features added on conversion, and especially ones that can introduce HUGE bugs like changing the online system to support an upgraded peripheral. It's a huge risk, and I wouldn't count on Sega doing it.

Plus, Sega US is usually clueless when it comes to games being posted for US release. It wouldn't be the first time they claimed a game would have x-feature and didn't on release.

I'm not saying it won't happen, just saying to take the news with a grain of salt.

That said, get the broadband adapter anyway. If you've got high-speed access, there isn't any good reason not to have it. It's not like you can't flip back to modem if you need to.

I also ordered my Dreamcast Broadband Adapter on 1/12 and still have not received it. I did get a confirmation e-mail last week that it had shipped. I'm hoping to be able to frag on-line with no lag later tonight. Has anyone received their broadband adapter yet?

I've also heard the same rumors about the lack of broadband support in Phantasy Star Online. That would be a serious misstep on Sega's part.

Anyone know if NFL2K1 and the other on-line compatible games will work with the broadband adapter. I realize that I may not get broadband throughput in these games, but I'm hoping to at least avoid tying up my analog phone line.

Uhh, you're actually pretty far off. The Japanese version of PSO officially supports the BBA, but it has glitches (as does modem-play). The US version does not officially support it, but still uses it and supposedly uses it better. Oh, and I ordered my BBA on Saturday.

Gamers.com has tested PSO with the broadband adapter, and they say it works fine. However, Sega doesn't officially support it, probably due to possible issues with NAT and crappy DSL providers. That said, get it anyway. Modems suck. I'm ordering mine next week or so so I can test it with my DSL connection, as it would probably be a good idea for the company I work for to know whether or not we're going to be having issues with it.

I don't know about ALL banner ISP's, but I have my DC set up on Freewwweb (at least that is what I set it up on... I just can't go from Cable to dial-up, so I haven't logged the DC in for about a year or so). I would be more than happy to sign into my Cable ISP from the DC!
