Looks like Lenovo has a $250 rebate on certain models good till May 31st - shop around a bit, and you can score a T60 for under a grand. CostCentral has the 14" model for $963.75 after rebate - I was too lazy to search for a lower price, but I'm sure some other store might have it for even less. Yes, we all know you can get a Dell with similar specs for way less, but anybody comparing an Inspiron to a Thinkpad should be quitly marched outside and shot in the head, twice.

Now that this line of laptops is directly owned by a Chinese company, I will avoid them at all costs. Offshoring manufacturing to China has resulted in a drop in quality on a grand scale. Selling an entire division to China makes it even worse.

Even if the Chinese made decent products there are numerous other reasons to steer clear. If you can't think of any or don't care then, well, my condolences.

You do realize that Lenovo's been manufacturing the Thinkpad for a # of years now right? Right?

Now that they can adhere to their own quality standards, watch the Thinkpad line degrade into the long-awaited sub $500 Wal-Mart laptop.

The build quality on the T60 is excellent, dare I say, better than that on the T4x. But unfortunately, it's a tad thicker and heavier than the T4x now. (My T60 weighs 5.2LB with battery and optical drive on my USB scale, and it's not that much thinner than the R50e in sig). It's all about the tradeoffs.

Check your clothes, shoes, and practically every piece of electronics you own. I'm betting way more than half of it has something in it that's "Made in China". Get real budday.

Should I get this or the D620 from Dell? The Dell will give me a 7200rpm drive and an Nvidia graphics card, the only reason I'd go with the IBM is for build quality.

Actually my shirt was made in Mexico, and my pants in Columbia. The only two pieces of clothes I have that I know were made in China are my hoody, and my backpack, both of which are falling apart and have been replaced once before.

Enjoy high quality Thinkpads while you can...

Most reviews state that the T60 isn't any worse than the T43 as far as quality is concerned, that's why I went ahead and bought one even though there are cheaper laptops out there. All the "made in china" haters, where do you think your laptop was made?

I think you're a protectionist lunatic who doesn't even realize that now that Lenovo owns the Thinkpad brand Thinkpad prices have actually gone down while quality hasn't.

Lenovo's cheaper line of less quality built notebooks is sold under their other line, the entire Thinkpad line is still held up to a much higher standard. Lenovo didn't spend a bazillion dollars acquiring the Thinkpad brand just to piss it away, if they wanted to build crappy notebooks they'd have just build crappy notebooks and gained market share on price alone (like pretty much every other notebook maker ever).

Seriously, IBM Thinkpads were great but priced out of most people's reach, and I don't think there's anything wrong with having the same quality now be accessible to more people because everything is being done by Lenovo now.

Yes there's plenty of crappy made in china stuff, but there's also plenty of multi-billion dollar Chinese mega-corporations who are all about gaining market share by making competitive products and not just the cheapest possible stuff.

If you think everything Chinese has to suck then I think you better turn your computer off because I'll bet that a good percentage of all those little components soldered onto all those PCBs are actually from China.

The T60 also has a superior vidcard, and screen. The only thing that i REALLY don't like about Lenovo is how the fn, and ctrl keys are switched. It's just gonna bug me when I keep trying to ctrl + c, and i keep hitting the wrong button. Plus when i play FPS games it's also where my crouch key usually is.

You do know that just about the entire electronics industry is based in China and Taiwan, right?

To "CW42" I think there is a utility that will remap keys - at least their used to be one that was downloadable from ibm.com (Lenovo's website is still hosted by IBM). http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid
MIGR-44185 The thing I hate about the T60 is that Lenovo put the ^#%#^@ Windows keys on the keyboard - give me back my spacebar!

Secondly, to the China hater above, Lenovo's headquarters is in the Chinese town of Morrisville, NC (just outside of Raleigh). Dell had to reprimand some of their reps for making statements like that - it was all over the trade press.

well at least the lenovo decided to put in a WIN and an APP key now. IBM was very against that and even my thinkpad X31 doesn't have the WIN key which I used quite often (WIN+R). so i've mapped my right ALT to be WIN.
