We just moved into a brand-spanking-new-still-under-construction building at school. Let me tell you this building is a beauty, and they stocked it to be every geeks wet dream.

Very nice new classes, all geared towards power point presentations but also for regular blackboard teaching. Each class has two very large retractable screens and (impressively) bright projectors. Comfy chairs and ample workspace for each students (none of those retarded half-desks).

The whole building is Wi-fi enabled, I have yet to find a dead spot.

There are over 800 computers in the building, of which about 80% are brand new P4 2.66 GHz Gateways. All have beautiful 18" LCDs (running off of DVI GeForce4 Ti4200s for the general purpose ones).

3rd Floor Computers (approx. 150 of them) are all running Red Hat Linux or FreeBSD.
4th and 5th Floor Computers (a truckload, didn't count) are running Win2k or WinXP Pro.

Some labs are dedicated for software validation and run a slew of different hardware and software.
I should note that the Intarweb feels very fast on them... faster than 5 mbit/s up and down on DSL Reports but I'm not sure of the accuracy of that.

Times like these remind me why I chose this major

and how much do you have to pay to go to such a fancy school...

My school fees are approx $CDN 3.6K/yr, with another maybe $1k/yr in books. If you're an international student, the fees are more expensive though... of the order of $CDN 10K-15K/year

Thats cool.

But I think a geek's wet dream probably involes a woman :coo; lol.

As for me I'm fine with Uni's pc setup. They all run Win XP Pro now. And have various linux and another distro you can boot up on.

Some of the other labs have 17" 16ms LCD's. Looks nice but running off dsub though.

Kind of sounds like a lot of schools today. When I was an undergrad, a new engineering building was made and housed most of the EE stuff. Wireless access everywhere, LCD monitors for the computers, nice rooms/seats, projectors in every room with screens, even a large atrium area for the students to study. This was a couple of years ago.

study areas are pretty nice, they're rooms with a table and maybe 10 seets with views that overlook campus. Going down the staircase you have a pretty nice view of the city through a large window.

I think that's pretty standard nowadays for any decent university. You should actually be concerned why they didn't do this sooner!

We already had a fairly up to date building (I'd say it was built in the late 80's but has had updates since then). I think that Computer Science takes over that building now and we get the new one to ourselves. The buildings we're already adequate, hell they finished a building for chem eng and materials sciences in 1997.

EEs deserve the best and newest

Bah, silly engineers. You may have nice buildings, but we in the Arts faculty have all the nice women

One of these days we're gonna figure out how to manufacture better women.

Yes, I've seen the wonderful things you lot do with computer graphics these days, and frankly, real life women >>>>> computer-generated women

I'm talking about genetics research, not computer graphics.

Hell if they can grow an ear on a mouse imagine what else can be grown on a mouse...:disgust:

Hey, Raynor, how is it your tution is only $3,600? Does Engineering have lower tuition? I'm paying slightly over $4,000 for my Arts tuition if memory serves me correctly.

Wow, you engineers really are a sad lot... I would have at least thought you could get some human women, even if they weren't very good looking, but if you've given up and gone on to mice now, wow...

It's not like you're only allowed to associate within your major I personally rarely make friends within my engineering courses since they're usually very odd people.
