That being said, would like to know if I should uninstall my pro version of 2 and just go with 3 basic. Any thoughts?

install it to a different folder so you can always go back if you dont like it
thats what i did

That's what I did too... so far, i'm not liking the fact that you can't select which sounds to turn off and which to keep... it's all or nothing, practically. In the old version, you could turn off sounds like subsequent IMs, but alert on first IM... that's what was good for me.

Yeah my contacts are split between AIM and MSN. I haven't used ICQ and IRC in years.

If I have an older version of pro, do I need to rebuy, or can I upgrade?

WTF don't they offer a lifetime license?

There's no way I'm going to pay yearly for this software.

Charge me $29.99 for an OWNED license and I'll gladly pay.

It's always worked for me using basic user rights. You just gotta know how to configure it.

Gaim or Trillian are nice because they allow multiple connection to different IM protocols, so not only do you lose the bloat from the individual programs, usually the one trillian or gaim program uses less resources than any one MSN, AIM, or ICQ program, let alone if you use all three...

I prefered trillian 1-2pro to gaim on windows, and now there's 3.0 which finally updates the free version to operate alot more like the pro has been for a long time. Its definately worth a shot.

Oh Please, I know how to do that. You change the user profile path from the Program Files directory to your Documents and Settings. Other things still don't work correctly. Every time I need to change a setting that Trillian stored in a config file in its Program Files directory, I would have to "runas" admin change it, quit and start it back up as a normal user. Yes it can be done, but it's a pain in the rear.

I sent them a flaming E-mail about that very subject. When I signed up it was for a lifetime subscription...not the lifetime of trillian pro 2.0. I also said if you need the income that badly give a person who renews trillian a break like 10 dollars instead of getting shafted for another 25 bucks!.

Thanks for the heads up. I bought my Trillian Pro back in February of this year, so I'm still entitled to upgrade to 3 Pro free.

I have not used Trilian for several years but when I did (it used to be free too), it always had file transfer problems because the official clients are always changing their protocols and Trillian is always a year or so behind. Not like ICQ, AIM give them the info to make a compatible client.

As for me, I still just use the official clients.

You are right. Trillan has crap for multiuser setup. Changes do not stick unless you are an admin.
