I am very disapointed in my Swiftech mc462-a. It is huge and kind of a pain to install and it only keeps my 1.2ghz athlon 5 degrees below what the factory heatsink does. The CAK38 that it was suppose to replace does much better than it but its such a pain to remove I am going to wait till this weekend to take it off.

you kidding me man?

The swiftech heatsink has one of the best installation clips I have ever seen on a heatsink. It's idiot proof for everybody.
Extremely easy, efficient, applies exact equal pressure and really innovative

Definitely better than those cheap alpha clips

My 1.33 @ 1540 with swiftech and air cooling from 6 case mod fans...

Idle: 33 C
Full Load: 37-38

These are the lowest it gets...but the highest i've ever gone is 40 C!!! Jodocast is right...this HSF is not that hard to install. It is practically idiot proof. Way better then trying to yank in those clips into the slots on the side of the cpus. Takes a lil longer cuz you have to kinda build it and screw things here and there...but i can't recommend a better fan. Unless you are on a budget. I never heard of a mc-462a user complain about its ability to cool. It does its job very very well. Good choice!

Tightening it ain't that hard...just make sure the screws are finger tight. What i mean by that is when you tighten the screws...don't screw all the way in until it's like crazy tight. Use your thumb and index fingers and gently tighten the screws until you start feeling a good amount of tension. You don't have to screw it in all the way! Just a finger tight screw.

O.K., so how loud is the MC462-A? Significantly louder than other 60MM fans?

I installed the MC462A (w/Sanyo Denki fan) yesterday.

It dropped my CPU temp 16 degrees celcius from what I was getting with the crappy TT Orb I was using before.

I don't find the SD fan loud at all. But I played guitar in a punk band so I might not be the best judge of tolerable decibels

If money is no object I recommend the Swiftech highly.

Where did you get your Swiftech? I saw them at inflowdirect but they come with a certain fan there (preinstalled)? Am I incorrect or is this an 80mm fan with this heatsink, not a 60mm? Where is it available with a Sanyo Denki?

Been numerous threads about trying to compare hsf on different mb and all but even on the same board there can be trouble. I personally think the best way to compare is using delta. At 100% load my mc462 runs 19c over case temp. Thats on a abit kt7a with the thermister bent for good contact and a touch of AS on it. You might also want to mention that it is running at 1565 mHz at 1.84 volts. At Idle (depending on how idle you mean) it runs 1-2c over case temp. Thats also with acpi enabled. All I know is I got supposedly the bad chip AYHJA 9 and it runs very fast. But equally important is memory, motherboard, and power supply. Weakness in any area shows up as a unstable computer. HTH
