whats best to get for a p4? just spoke with one store today, was advised MCX4000 is the best p4 HS, is that true?? however if u take a look @overclockers.com o/c database u ll see most people w/2.4c's are using SLK-900U's, just one or two people have got a mcx4000....also looks like mcx4000 base is polished much better

so ultimately what is the best p4 HS out there??

The Swiftech isn't quite as efficient as the SLK900. Your only talking probably a few degrees C difference at the most though. If you want the ultimate cooler at the moment it's probably the SLK900U. The Zalman 7000 is pretty good too, but it's forte is a balance of good cooling and low noise. It's got a fixed 92mm fan. With the SLK900U you can put whatever 80 or 92mm fan you want on it, and can even half-ass a 120mm fan onto it, if you're so inclined.

i think you can get a zalman fan bracket and put a 120mm for the slk-900.

I don't think the cooling is better, and it's probably worse with the 120mm fan.

Don't forget the new kid on the block. The new Thermalright SP-94, it's design for P4, I talked to thermalright (North America), they told me the shipment for sp-94 won't be here till end of this month. Anyone have idea what's the retail price?

Retail price should be around low 50's initially on the SP-94.

As for: 900U vs Swiftech MCX4000:

What type of fan are you going to be using. In low cfm situations the MCX4000 will perform slightly better than the 900U.

In high CFM situations, the 900U will outperform the Swiftech model.

In Medium situations, there shouldn't be much of a difference.

Really the difference between the 2 is very slim. Look at what's cheaper, and use that as a benchmark.

Both are awesome heatsinks and you shouldn't have a problem.

PS: btw use the 947U rather than the 900U same price, but slightly better performance.

doesn't the heatpipe Thermalright SP-94 only works properly if it is laying horizontally. the orientation really matters for heatpipe applications. i had a cooler master heatpipe and it never functioned properly when i laid vertically.
