Hey since Verizon switch the data plans i a thinking of switching to Sprint for their unlimited data. I want to upgrade my phone but i don't want to pay more money for less data. I'm in the Philly area. Just wanted to know if anyone switched from Verizon to Sprint and if they regret it? I don't know how the Sprint vs Verizon 4g network in Philly compares. The only phone I'm somewhat familiar with for sprint is the Samsung SIII. Any other suggestions on phone from Sprint?

I'm switching from Sprint to Verizon because Sprint is in the middle of upgrading their WiMax 4G network to LTE, and my city isn't even on their roadmap yet.

Check out their LTE coverage map in your area before committing. Be sure to click on the "data" tab.

I get an error when i try to use the map using zip code 19151. It looks like i have 4gin my area but the phone on the map for the SIII only says 3g.

Sprint has a $49 special on the SIII this Thursday

Philly has wimax, but no lte until spring of 2013. The Epic 4G Touch was the last wimax phone offered by Sprint and of course the GS3 uses lte. I'll edit this post with my opinion in a few.

Edit: My opinion is don't switch, but I'd like to add a few things that may or may not make the decision easier. I'm currently on Sprint with the GNII, but this is only because I'm on Sero Premium ($50 total before taxes) and I also force my phone's voice & 3G to roam on Verizon through a PRL change. This cannot be done for any kind of 4g.
Something you may be overlooking is that you can get the same $79.99 package Sprint offers for $69.99 ($59.99 + $10 Premium data addon) through Sprint's Everything Plus Referral Program, which is located at Sprint.com/sero. If you decided the monthly savings to be worth it and don't mind waiting for Philly to get Sprint's LTE (I've read March 2013), just enter Russ.S.McGuire@Sprint.com & 383 at the site I listed above and off you go. I mentioned the EPRP plan in the hopes to save you $10 a month in case you were switching to Sprint, not to confuse you further or make the decision even tougher.

I just switched from Sprint to Verizon two months ago. I was with Sprint for 3-4 years. I was very satisfied with their service up to the point they adopted the iPhone. Once the iPhone was released, for me, the 3G service went down the tubes. The WiMax was nice for a while, but once they started messing with the towers to bring LTE, that went down the tubes as well. Once the iPhone came out, it felt like Sprint was a second hand network.

Being on Verizon has been nice. Everything is so much more reliable. It is a little bit of a premium, but I never have network issues, and where I am I average 20mb up and down.

I really hope Sprint gets it together, cause I thought their customer service was excellent. I never had a billing issue. Nor did I have problem they did not correct immediately.

My suggestion would be to really do some research on the data speeds and such in your area. There are some places that Sprint is very good in. Make sure where you live is one of those places or you will get very frustrated when you are trying to use up data at 56k speeds.

Do not switch to sprint until sprint has lte in your area, sprint 3g as well as wimax seriously suck that bad. This is coming from a sprint user that has recently upgraded from a wimax phone to an lte phone

If you're in Philly proper and main metro area, you should consider T-mobile. You can even go prepaid for a while if you're not sure about coverage.

You could try Sprint, but make sure their LTE is even in your area.

Otherwise, if you want unlimited data these are your options.

T-mobile now has a plan that offers truly unlimited data, no throttling. It is their most expensive plan. They also have other plans with 2 or 5GB of data then throttle. It is 42Mbps HSPA+. I believe their unlimited everything plan is $90/mo.

US Cellular also announced this week that they will be offering unlimited LTE for $40/mo + voice plan, etc for a few months only. You could check that out.

I'm considering moving to sprint for unlimited data as well. I use my iPhone for tethering part of the time and have usually gone through my limit and get throttled in the first week.

tmobile value plan is $70 a month for unlimited everything. value plan = bring your own device, no subsidies. saves you a ton of money in the long run.

Thanks for this thread LOL... it got me a pick up a Galaxy Nexus for $250 so I could use my Sprint LTE.... I couldn't take the 3G garbage anymore and I was on contract so didn't want to buy something fancy. I went down to the local sprint store just to test the LTE speeds and I was happy. 15Mbps down 20 up. Then I checked the local maps and most the area around here has LTE live now.

The short answer to this whole thread is... what works best in your area? Verizon has wider coverage but if your area has LTE & has coverage... Sprint is the better bet. If not, Verizon will most likely have coverage but you will pay for it. I don't believe Philly is live yet for LTE and may not be until spring for Sprint.

Last spring I gave up on Sprint after about a 10 year association. Coverage when I traveled to Pasadena, CA was pathetic - not even a solid 1XRTT.

Last May I switched to Verizon and the result has been very noticeable. I now get 4G with at least two bars from that same location in Pasadena. Will never go back! Verizon rules!
