That's the saddest part about expensive upgrades, they never last long enough...I don't know if it's a hobby or an addiction, but being a PC enthusiast we get to do these crazy things every once a while
Depends on what you buy. But yea thats what i hate about computers.. Thats why you have to do alot of research ask alot of questions, and keep your current computer until it truely does get to the point of needing a upgrade..
You cant really call a E8400 in need of upgrading yet.. It not nearly done. So the problem about saying PC parts dont last long enough can be interprited differantly by people. One person might think his E8400 is a peice of trash because he doesnt get 60 fps anymore and only gets 45. Others think thats fine.. So while you are spending houndreds on a upgrade they keep the E8400 for another 6 months or year. Then upgrade there PC while you are stuck with your other computer that you ddnt really need to upgrade to in the first place.
The 4850 someone mentioned wasnt really top of the line to begin with anyway.. It wasnt much faster then a 8800GT, and i relised that like 2 months after i bought one.. Thats why i upgraded to the 4890 shortly after. The 4850 was a bad decision.
So the way i see is this.. I spent like $850 on my PC when i got it over a year ago not counting the 4890 cause i had a 4850. Iv had it for like 1-2 years now. The E8400 as i mentioned plays Bad company 2 just fine i get 45-60fps depending on where i am in the game or what happens.. I played crysis and its expansion just fine getting average 45 fps or so. I play fallout 3 60fps constant, while someone like you would upgrade again and spend another $800 ill keep my pc until my fps drop below 40. One thats happens I'll upgrade for another $800.
So Lets say after 4 years, I upgrade twice. I spend $1600, the way some people are needing the best and constant 60 frames in 4 years for them they will spend like $3200, simply because 45fps at the highest details isnt good enough for them those are the people who say computers dont last long enough lol.. They just cant stretch what they got.. They always have to have the best.
If you think PC's are an expensive hobby, try astronomy. Im into astronomy and telescope's and binoculars, eyepeices, stuff like that cost way more then computers lol.. I bought a 10 inch telescope " thats a 10 inch wide mirror draw a line on a peice of paper thats 10 inchs" and it was $600. Then my 10x50 binoc's were $90, then each eyepeice is around $50 for cheap ones and $150+ for the good ones. You need at least 4-5 diff eyepeices too.. 10 inch telescope's can only see so much.. So after awhile you want to see more. So you buy a 16 inch then a 21 inch and 16 inch scopes are over $1200, and 21 inchs are just nuts.
