The purchase options seem a bit convoluted on the site. That's about the only thing bad I can think of right now.

Looks awesome. Though I'm a little dismayed that it's yet another Sword Coast setting. Forgotten Realms had so many other cool places.

Something to keep a watch on. I'm only interested in the campaign.

It would be nice if the developers would stick to a certain set of rules instead of reinventing everything everytime. That would actually be a godsent. In retrospect I think the most complex aspect of the old forgotten realms titles was not so much the rules as much as getting to know the how skills, attributes, perks etc played together. Its D20 all of it right hehe.

Agreed though I also hope most effort is put into the sp campaign else Im done with it real fast dammit.

I suspect that they are forced to use the 5th edition rules as part of the agreement to use the licensed D&D universe.

Not that anyone cares, but I endorse this post 1000%!

Kids these days drink Monster. They have no appreciation for the awesomeness that original formula Coca-Cola is......their loss.

So the original formula stopped being used in 1903, so that makes you what, at least 112 years old?

Back on topic, I wonder if this game is going to have built in voice chat. It would seem really necessary.

MMORPG.com: How much control over how the adventures play out does the DM have?

Tudge: The DM is fully capable of customizing experiences and significantly altering a player's adventure by changing encounters, placing traps, spawning monsters, creating quest NPCs, generating secret areas, locking doors -- all in real-time. We also have deep campaign tools that enable DMs to build near limitless campaigns for their players (more on that later!).

This looks cool. I loved the gold box games growing up (I'm looking at you Pool of Radiance.) I also very much like to go back to Krynn.

I'm actually 666 years old. Being a vampire is awesome!

It would be really cool if they could release a Dragonlance setting game. That and Dark Sun.

Just an Idea for a game design plot. (sorry if this goes on a tangent)

Have the computer play AI character party (1 to maybe 6 members) of random or manual set class/race and the player is the DM.
His job is to get the party to the end alive or its a lose.
The adventures could talk of there conditions (bored, hungry, tired, memorize or even verbally fight with each other due to alignment or ego conflicts)
Have them request a fight between party members (side bar fight) due to party conflicts and as a DM you allow this or not and have it affect the parties efficiencies.

As a DM you get to throw in random encounters and finds/treasure.
If the whole party is dead then the game ends, But the designers can set it up so that if a member dies (2 or more members) he can revived (if there is a party member who can do it) or wait till the next town/safe point to resurrect or just add a newer lower level member back in.

Just some ideas.

This looks really good with the right kind of people working on it. Baldur's Gate vets and no big publisher forcing release dates or compromises. Pre-ordered this already.

Plus it starts with only 6 classes, so expect a DLC for each class afterwards. I wonder if everybody in the group would need to have the 'monk DLC' or just the player who wants to play a monk. I hope it's like Paradox Strategy games, only the host of the game needs the DLCs.

This is my biggest concern. I seriously hope they are allowing customized classes, spells, races, etc., to be added by the end users. The reason NWN lasted as long as it did was because it allowed for all kinds of extra races, classes, spells, items, etc., to be added in by the moding community. At the end, hundreds of extra classes and spells had been added for use, both with the initial campaign, as well as with third-party persistant servers, and campaign instances, using mods like PRC.

This is also one of the reasons why NWN2 didn't last as long because they had some hard coded limits to the number of classes, races, and spells in the game engine in one session (i.e. I believe there was 8 or 9 class limit, allowing only 1-2 extras on top of the standard ones in the engine without replacing the standard ones).

Six classes, so Fighter, Ranger, Cleric, Druid, Mage, Thief? I still love Baldur's Gate II and occasionally go back and play through it again, but the lack of classes in this new one is a little off-putting. As long as they allow Dual and Multi classes it'll be fine until they add more classes with DLC (Paladin, Monk, Bard...) or allow for mods to take care of it. Obviously, as long as the game is good though I'll live with the rest.

Is there a logic-type thing you can set up your party's attacks with, similar to what was in DAO (or was that DA2...?)? Seems like this kind of game demands that kind of feature. Looks interesting. I don't understand the appeal of the D&D rules though.

D&D is only the first & greatest set of RPG rules ever created.

I haven't done a lot of research on Sword Coast though. One thing that bothered me is I was reading that everything was setup to scale with party level. So leveling is just an illusionary treadmill, whenever you get stronger so do all the enemies, no real net change.

Blah, I hate that crap.

Autoleveling is okay so long as its within a range. Do a lot of side quests or none at all and the main story line stays reasonable in difficulty, great. Going back to the first dungeon sewers and finding rats that now one shot your 20 hit die warrior in one swing.... not so good.

DnD is mostly about the world now though. They're using 6th edition which is nothing like what most of us grew up playing (CRPGs or paper). I'm just used to the lore and have read books set in the forgotten realms world, etc. Not really any different than being excited about the latest fallout game since you're invested in that universe.

Typo? Fifth edition came out last year, I don't think they're confident they can sell a new version every year just yet...

The graphics look amazing and it really gives the feeling of Dragon Age Origins, but that game was truly amazing, I have big nostalgia for it.
