DM had schedule for fail - one episode at 8PM, no reruns during same night. So you get one shot to watch it on TV (unless you record it). I've watched each episode on their app.
DM had the 9pm slot. Killjoys was its lead-in at 8pm.

But you're right about the lack of repeats, which I've noticed as well. It's very odd since for the longest time they did a repeat of the block in the overnight hours. IIRC, the last time I checked, DM and Killjoys had a regular repeat on a Thursday morning. Otherwise the KJ finale had a repeat at 2:30am yesterday. However that was it; neither show is scheduled to air in the next two weeks. Meanwhile The Book of Eli will be run 3 times. It may just be tunnel vision on my part, but overall SyFy doesn't seem to like airing reruns of its scripted series. I have to imagine this is because movies and syndicated episodic series are easier for random viewers to get into?

Why would repeats be a big deal? Doesn't most everyone with cable have some sort of recording device? The only real issue should be whether or not a show conflicts with another popular show in the same or an overlapping time slot. Most DVRs only have maybe 4 tuners so if you have some shows that overlap by a minute or two that means you can only record two of them. But Friday night should be mostly wide open.

No. Especially not when it's another $10/month to friggin Comcast.

Yep. Used to be $20 and pisses me off they have gone to $10 DVR and $10 HD technology fee. Even if you cancel their DVR they still nik you $10.

Freakin Comcrap, their box still crashes almost every weekend on schedule and they claim its not their problem. Miss parts of KJ or DM and the no reruns mess me up. Probably programed by one of the owners moron sons.

I don't have recording device either. Their apps on various platforms suffice for me. I like how AMC schedules their shows, usually you get another shot to watch it 1 or 2 hrs after the premiere.

If you don't want to feed the cable company beast, then get something like SlingTV. You can get most of the cable channels and broadcast channels although you do have to pay extra for certain packages. Still, it works out to less than cable and you get 50hours of cloud dvr storage. The only downside is that they don't offer CBS shows. But come fall, Directv is going to be launching their cloud service which should include all broadcast channels and a decent set of packaged channels.

I just finished up my binge watch of DM+KJ over Memorial Day weekend.

As always, I loved reading your thoughts, Virge. I checked back here after every pair of episodes. I was sad when they disappeared! Thank you.

I like KJ better than DM, but I still liked DM quite a bit and it's extraordinarily frustrating to see it end on a cliffhanger. I guess we have to hope someone else picks it up? Or maybe SyFy/NBCU will order a 2 hour special to wrap up the story? I won't get my hopes up.

To add to Charmonium's thought: In addition to Sling, there's also Hulu Live, Playstation Vue, Youtube TV, and DirecTV Now. They don't have a very consistent channel lineup between them and unless you're in select markets you won't get local channels. All of them aside from DirecTV have some form of DVR capability and DirecTV is getting it soon I believe.

I actually watched DM, never could get into KJ.
Where did you stop? It was never bad, but season 1 was mostly world-building. Whereas season 2 is where they really got started on the series' big arcs.

So the Dark Matter fan base is staging a campaign to get the show picked up somewhere else. For as crazy and as painful as most of these fan campaigns are, I have to admit this one is a little more impressive. They managed to rack up over 110K tweets so far tonight, which put it near the top of Twitter's trending hashtags.
I think it was said that Netflix was looking at it...but, I don't expect DM to come back.

This is a perfect show for Netflix. Low production costs since there's minimal CGI and they can probably get most of the cast for bargain basement rates now with the cancellation. And it has a hard core following which is exactly what you want for a subscriber base.

The real issue is viewership and DM has a solid 500k+ viewer base. I don't know how many people Netflix needs to produce something but I'd be surprised if it's much more than that.

DM was the better show. Hate how it ended on a cliffhanger.

I hate the arrogance of show runners using cliffhangers every season on a small show with extremely low probability of ever having a full run.

After both season 1 and 2 ended in cliffhangers, there was no doubt we would get nothing but cliffhangers, from the this team, and get screwed in the end.

Though I was losing interest in season 3.

I liked killjoys better, so if one had to go...

Damn - I just caught on on Dark Matter and now I see its been cancelled. Too bad - I really liked the show and I liked the slowly expanding plot lines for later conflicts. It kinda reminded me about Babylon 5 and how they had story lines developing as secondary\casual mentions over a few seasons before becoming major plot lines (although DM seemed to be developing at a faster pace)

Also makes me remember fondly the days of long running Sci-fi series and Sci-Fi's Fridays nerdgasm with SG1, Atlantis and BSG.

The season 4 premiere date has been announced: Friday, July 20th. This is a later-than-usual start, and I'm not sure how they're going to wrap up the show before the major networks start their fall premieres...

In other news, it turns out that seasons 4 and 5 are being filmed together, rather than on separate years. SyFy will no doubt still spread them out over the summers of 2018 and 2019. But it makes sense to finish series production in one go since 10 episodes was an undersized order to begin with, and Hannah John-Kamen has to be hard to hold on to these days.

Though there's also been a change in showrunners with very little information as to why, which is a bit worrying.

I'm surprised they're not calling them all the same season, like they did with Eureka (season 3 was 8 episodes one year and 10 episodes the next, season 4 was 10, then 11) and Haven (season 5 was 13 and 13).

This appears to be the reverse of that situation. Back then SyFY got cheap and split up 1 production season over 2 broadcast seasons.

In this case SyFy ordered 2 broadcast seasons and they're being merged into one production season, apparently for efficiency reasons.

Good news everyone!

That holiest of nerd holy periods has once more begun for 2018 I am of course talking about SyFy's 10 weeks of space action shows, aka SyFy Friday.

Sadly this year the roster is lighter than the past. Dark Matter, may you and your obvious production problems rest in peace.

With Dark Matter off the slate, SyFy Friday has been reduced to two shows: the always awesome Killjoys, and Wynonna Earp, which is starting its 3rd season. I can't really comment on the latter since I don't watch it, but if anyone wants to recap that, they're welcome to it.

In any case, it would seem that SyFy has sunk the money for DM's 4th season into filming both seasons 4 and 5 of Killjoys at once. Hannah John-Kamen is now a hot item, so one has to assume that this was the only way to secure her for two more seasons: by getting it all done in 2018. The net result is that while Killjoys season 5 is currently filming, it won't premiere for another year. This apparently also being the reason why SyFy only has 2 shows this year.

It also means that the schedule for this year has shifted a bit. The 8pm hour is gone. Wynonna Earp has been moved to DM's old 9pm slot, and Killjoys has been moved to 10pm. This was actually Killjoys' original slot in season 1, before the network moved it up in season 2 to serve as their lead-in and sanitized it a bit from TV-MA to TV-14. Taking up the 8pm hour will be the last hour of the movie of the week SyFy is running.

Killjoys Season 4 teaser

Killjoys S04E01, "The Warrior Princess Bride":

Trapped in the mysterious and mind-bending greenspace and on the run from the deadly Lady, Aneela and her father Khlyen struggle to stay one step ahead while keeping a wounded Dutch alive.

As always, I'm not going anywhere. Undomesticated equines could not remove me. Though if you want to do me a favor, you guys could speak up a bit more this year so that I'm not talking to myself quite so much.

I haven't watched any of the Killjoys series yet but I should put it on my list to start watching - not that it matters much because I'm always behind you guys since I have to wait for Netflix to get it
