Have binge watched Defiance lately.

Finished season 1 off.

Been watching Warehouse 13 a bit, not bad for an X-Files wannabe I'd never watched.
The Librarians is better than W13. W13 had some interesting ideas and was fun but TL has a bigger cast and characters aren't as black and white. To get the full Noel Wiley experience though you should watch the 3 Librarian movies first.

The adventure continues. Blastr reports that season two of Syfy’s space drama Killyjoys has begun production.

Season one of the space adventure show premiered on Syfy this summer.

Killjoys stars Hannah John-Kamen, Aaron Ashmore, and Luke Macfarlane as a trio of interplanetary bounty hunters. The series is a co-production between Syfy and the Canadian Space channel. Season one of the series didn’t perform that great in the ratings, but the series was renewed for a second season in September.

Season two will premiere sometime next summer.
They need a better time slot.

Apologies, I forgot to put this up in advance

It's that time of the year again, where Canada gets torn up and redressed to look like alien worlds.

Both Killjoys and Dark Matter are back for season 2. As with season 1, it's a 10 episode order for Killjoys, and a 13 episode order for Dark Matter. These are (largely) fun, action-y shows, with Dark Matter being the darker of the two. Check them out if you haven't already.

Killjoys (Syfy, 9 p.m., Friday) and Dark Matter (Syfy, 10 p.m., Friday): In the universe of scruffy, mid-budget sci-fi antihero adventure series, both the “space bounty hunters” Killjoys and the “we’re totally dangerous but forgot who we are” Dark Matter are low-key surprise pleasures. Syfy’s brought them both back for a second season and wisely paired them back-to-back for your Friday night “Well, I’ve already seen every episode of Firefly 10 times” enjoyment.

This time out, the sexy space “reclamation experts” of Killjoys continue to cope with the constantly shady jerks of the Quad-ruling Company. Over on Dark Matter, the numbers-for-names amnesiac crew has to deal with the seemingly traitorous actions of [number redacted], and the fact that they’re all in the custody of those jerks of the Galactic Authority. (Plus returning guest-jerk Wil Wheaton.) It’s a space-jerks double feature Friday.

Dark Matter S02E01: Welcome to Your New Home

The crew awaken as prisoners on a maximum security galactic detention facility.

Killjoys S02E01: I've been more fond of Killjoys than Dark Matter for some time now, and this episode is a good example of why. It takes about 30 seconds for the action to start, and we get some Fancy right off the bat.

The onion layer conspiracy stuff gets tiring after a bit, but at the very least it makes for a good setup for the episode. Of course now the burning question is what makes Davin so special that he can't be sixed, as the brain job they did on him last season seems too convenient. Also, you'll want to be sure to watch S01E10 again; like so many other episodes, this episode moves at a mile a minute and won't waste any time trying to recap what happened last season.

On the plus side, the team is back together again. And somehow I really doubt they dropped in Cyborg Girl for a one-shot...

Dark Matter S02E01: Given that last season ended on a cliffhanger, I expected this season to resolve it. It did not. So I'm a bit bummed about that.

Otherwise it's pretty standard fare, with the episode working on building things up for next week. An impossible to escape prison that they clearly need to escape before everyone in the galaxy tries to kill them. And the guard got a great one-liner in: "Are you kidding? [shot] That's the highlight of my day"

Oh hey, it's Mike Dopud. Can't have a Canadian SyFy series without him showing up.

And speaking of casting, Five is now officially a bad case of Dawson Casting. Just being short doesn't make you look 16.

Finally, I'm really wondering whose idea it was to make everyone take off their clothes in the first 30 seconds. That seems like something the network would do these days...

Just started watching, took a couple seconds till I placed it but the lawyer's distinct voice in DM was the doc in defiance.

Well they killed the whiner off in dark matter so one can only hope this is a good thing.

I do hope they bring back the cyborg girl more also.

Just finished season 1 of Killjoys and episode 1 of season 2.

It's nothing groundbreaking and a bit cheesy, but I like it. I like shows that mix action, drama, comedy.

I think the decon scene is pretty much standard now, I just don't know why they didn't finish getting dressed before heading in to the cells? The cafeteria is right next to the decon chamber?

I'll always remember Mike as the Bounty hunter from SG1.

Not sure I follow the logic of having that halodeck type device in solitary confinement?

Didn't get a chance to watch Killjoys yet.

Heh, you sure he is dead?

Four taps on the chest and a head shot. Dude is a goner.

The story about his wife's death and the frame job sounds really interesting. Hopefully it's not a simple corporate takeover thing.

I'm pretty sure he appeared in all three of the SG series. As different characters, of course.

I don't think you'll find a sane in-universe reason. It was a chance to do an undie shot, and that's it.

The prisoners that are in solitary are there because they're a threat to others. So the VR thing is to let them interact without actually hurting other prisoners. Though it seems to put the apparent harshness of solitary in conflict with the reality of the situation.

Dark Matter has a pretty specific piece of applied phlebotinum - Transfer Transit clones - that's been used before to have a character death fake-out. So I wouldn't count out One quite yet (especially as they made sure to name drop Transfer Transit in the episode).

I think I have to give the edge to Killjoys but I like both programs.

Here we go with the game of thrones influence again, kill off a major character (or not).

So now we have two threads with these two shows discussed together? I'm wondering, why? They have nothing to do with each other other than being Canadian shot sci-fi shows with similar funding.

Anyhow, I'll bite.

Season 2 seems to continue the trend of middling sci-fi drama, for both shows. I'll watch but I'm not entirely enthralled with the shows.

I'm willing to guarantee it's a body double or some other ruse that will see him alive still.

So it seems spoilers are ok

I don't think rules have been established. I'm treating it as a place for recap discussion after an episode is aired, so I wouldn't come in until I watched the latest episode unless I don't mind getting spoiled.

Agreed.

I'm not sure I agree with this though. It's starting to get tedious.

She's fine. Maybe not 16 looking but she definitely can pass for well under 20. BTW, she was also in two different Stargate series.

I think the main problem is not how young or old she looks, but more that seems like a naive middle-class schoolgirl not an orphan that grew up on the streets.

Finally, I'm really wondering whose idea it was to make everyone take off their clothes in the first 30 seconds. That seems like something the network would do these days...
These types of scenes are stupid. BTW, it seems crooks all wear designer knickers.

The worst example though is Star Trek: Enterprise. They actually had to rub each other down in grease for decontamination.

I dont know, seeing T'Pol in the decontamination chamber was the best part of Enterprise.

Well new season, new thread.

As for why the two shows are together, I could split them up. But to be honest I don't think either individual thread would get all that much attention, judging from the S1 thread.

Poor Connor Trinneer though...
