If you want more belter, Earth, Mars conflict the books head back that way. This is the only book/season that sees the Roci crew on a single planet.
I’m only half way through the season but I like what they added with Bobby’s story. Fills in some back story missing from the books and is good use of her character since she didn’t feature prominently in the book.
I've heard more than one comparison to Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica - where they were focused on a single planet/colony and the issues that are wont to start. Now, that season got a lot of grief, but I rather enjoyed it. Nice change up, new issues, new themes and allegories that caught some by surprise (the good guys going out suicide bomber style, anyone?). But I've also seen that the consensus so far is this season of The Expanse outshines BSG's colony world season.
I think that's where a lot of the "starting a new phase in this series" things really comes to a head -- sure it seems there's a lot of focus on this specific colony world, but there's still a lot threatening to boil over all over the story universe, and there's also mention of how the wars have been fatiguing and morale is dropping. Everyone gets to take a break to figure out what the hell happens next. It's a whole new variable in the balance of power that I can only imagine will soon introduce all new reasons to wage war.
