I was a little shaky with S6E1 but the season has really picked up pace. Its a shame that its only over 6 episodes and Amazon is doing stupid crap like hiding extra scenes in their X-Ray feature that really should have been a part of the show.
This season's pace feels much more like the peak of show in Season 3 with the plot firmly in the driver's seat, rather than the rather slow character development stuff we got in S4 and especially in S5.
- That girl is going to pet cemetery her brother, isn't she? And that's going to be the god damn cliffhanger the whole show will end on: her zombified brother, who is both himself and part protomolecule hybrid at the same time. There was clearly something wrong with that resurrected bird, and the fixed drone had blue protomolecule shit all over it. Alien dogs are clearly more intelligent/capable than they let on.
- I am really enjoying how ruthless Marco is and how quickly his veneer of "savior of the belt" disappears when its his ass on the line. Clearly he is using the belt to become the master of the ring gate. Looks like his gameplan is to build some massive rail guns and park them at medina station and basically pull off Sauvigtare's plan from the prior season to control the ringspace. Tingling in my nethers tells me we're going to get a brutal ringspace fleet battle at the end of this season.
-The Rocinante vs the Pella was absolutely fantastic. How has no other space show ever used actual physics and logical battle prep as part of the dramatic tension of a space battle? Everytime anything isn't tied down in the Rocinante and combat starts I get butterflies in my stomach. OF COURSE you'd want to depressurize and suite up before a battle, little bullet holes leaking air will cause issues with ship navigation, or kill the entire crew if a compartment is vented.
- The show is handling the absence of Alex quite well by dropping subtle hints but not dwelling on his absence (No one on this ship knows how to cook). Really enjoying some of the cameos we're getting from old favorites (Anna, Prax, That Martian Captain/Admiral, the Belter etc). Would have been nice to have them return in a more permanent way, but won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Pure fanservice.
- Love Amos' growth as a character. Starts off like a psychopathic puppy who attaches himself to whomever seems to have their shit together, and now he's started to figure out that NO ONE has their shit together, and he knows well enough to do what's right. Liked how he told Peaches she was free to wander the ship, don't let anyone give you shit. Like the inversion of the dynamic there too, where Peaches is clearly looking to Amos for guidance instead of the other way around.
- Drummer. Lets have her actually do something instead of mope all season! She's back to being the badass we expected, planning raids on Marco's deep space supply dumps. My money is on her selling those materials to the UN to stop the complete collapse of Ceres station, and in the process setting herself up to be the alternative to Marco Inaros for the belters to look to.
- Filip is an intensely dislikable character that you cannot help but feel sorry for. I suspect he's going to be instrumental in bringing his father down as he becomes more and more disillusioned with Marco's grandstanding and proclamations of saving the belt.
Its a short season, but there is really a lot to like and if it keeps up this pace every episode should be pretty solid. None of that GOT crap with a bunch of episodes revolving around the ultimately pointless Battle of Winterfell.
