If you want more belter, Earth, Mars conflict the books head back that way. This is the only book/season that sees the Roci crew on a single planet.

I’m only half way through the season but I like what they added with Bobby’s story. Fills in some back story missing from the books and is good use of her character since she didn’t feature prominently in the book.

I've heard more than one comparison to Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica - where they were focused on a single planet/colony and the issues that are wont to start. Now, that season got a lot of grief, but I rather enjoyed it. Nice change up, new issues, new themes and allegories that caught some by surprise (the good guys going out suicide bomber style, anyone?). But I've also seen that the consensus so far is this season of The Expanse outshines BSG's colony world season.

I think that's where a lot of the "starting a new phase in this series" things really comes to a head -- sure it seems there's a lot of focus on this specific colony world, but there's still a lot threatening to boil over all over the story universe, and there's also mention of how the wars have been fatiguing and morale is dropping. Everyone gets to take a break to figure out what the hell happens next. It's a whole new variable in the balance of power that I can only imagine will soon introduce all new reasons to wage war.

Yah, the whole series kinda goes off the rails after they find the gates. Makes me a little sad that they kinda of fast forwarded to get there when they thought the series was ending. There is a ton more pre-gate material in some of the side story books too.

Interesting. I've only heard great things about the entire series taken as a whole, and haven't seen anything negative about the latter books.

But I can totally see that being a challenge for the authors: the first few were strictly in the solar system, with an alien threat/variable but otherwise all about the power dynamics of Earth, Mars, and the seemingly loosely-organized Belt.

To then take the jump to, what, hundreds of gates to all new worlds? Taking that story and still keeping up with planetary/colonial government plots which have still been highly grounded (IMHO), that can't be easy. And is sure to involve some contrivances that may be off-putting to readers.

Don't want to post any spoilers, but the season's ending left me intrigued and wanting more.

I love how a single fruit can be singled out and banned on public transport. I mean, I don't really love that, I don't like the idea of such a foul thing even existing. But I like how it is specifically banned outright all by itself. There's no signs for any other generally offensive thing that some people like, just specifically durian. lol

Surströmming is the only other thing I can think of that gets the same treatment. It's even worse than durian. Think whale pussy packed with feces and stuck in a trash bag for the entire month of August.

Just run.

yup. Its less bad, than different. Aliens were an unknown, tech and politics were plausible. That's what really made the expanse unique. Once the gate opens, it becomes a lot more like other sci-fi where alien weird is just part of the everyday background. Its part of why I was such a big game of thrones fan. Magic was super special weird thing. The more common it becomes, the less special it is in the story. I think they're are still going for "what is the plausible outcome of this weirdness", but like I said- different story.

I hated that season of BSG. Almost stopped watching.

Murtri's Lt, the one who was riding Amos. Just realized where I've seen her before.

I binged season 4. Spending the entire season on one thing was disappointing, The past three seasons they usually started something that got resolved mid-season, started another issue that held you until the next season and then finished it mid-point season 2, started another and so on. This was ten episode on one thing that was really not much of a thing. Why spend 13-14 months production for this? They started shooting s4 in October of last year.

So far I'm really enjoying season 4. What I don't get is that it doesn't follow the last installment of the novels; not that this bothers me, as I found the last novel something of a disappointment. I just figured the show would stick closer to the book. Still, one of the best TV shows I've ever enjoyed. SciFi the way it should be done, and Amos is truly one of the most genuine characters I've seen portrayed. I hope Wes Chatham goes on to better and better roles.

I'm re-watching season 3 right now and the subtle humor built into the dialog is what I was missing from season 4.

Watched S4 and then decided to re-watch seasons 1-3. I'm at the point where the Roci goes into the ring. Can someone explain to me why the proto-molecule doesn't overtake the Roci like it does the other ships? I may have missed it somewhere, but why has it not grown or anything on the Roci?

If you mean the glob on the ship? Because it's trying to use Holden/the Roci as a taxi to get it through the gate, and through the other gates to determine what happened to the builders. Holden is the pair of hands the protomolecule needs to interact with reality.

From reading the books my opinion is that they get better than the one this season was built on. Still really enjoying it though

I'm glad Holden figure out how to not squint the whole time.

Eh? I thought it followed Cibola Burn pretty well

Ooooooo, episode 4, season 4.

Lots of great stuff. I am strongly considering reading the books... even though I am illiterate!

Well, that's probably the end for him. I hope they find a really good replacement, somebody who's a better actor than Anvar.

While I won't say I don't take allegations like this seriously, I will say that I just don't care all that much what an actor does or thinks in his/her personal life.

Further being able to act and/or play a guitar well does not qualify you as my my role-model or hero .... so I don't have unrealistic expectations.

Finally after the damage done to Kevin Spacey in particular based on what turned out to be nonsense (put politely) I think it might be a good idea to find out what actually happened before jumping to judgement not just "believe" by default.

EDIT: Of course House of Cards being cancelled turned out not to matter since we've ended up with the "IRL" version!

I don't follow their personal lives either, however, these things almost always translate into career changers for the person involved.
