Complete Product - Backup & Recovery of your whole hard drive or just select important files.

List Price: $49.99
Our Price: $46.36
Price After Rebate(s): $6.36
Shipping: FREE

The nice part is you get $20 visa debit card as part of the rebate. Buying a visa gift card often has a $7 transaction fee attached plus shipping. If you need to ask what good they are then don't bother.

I'm surprised no comment on this one. Seems like this is pretty hot deal if the "Norton Save & Restore" is as advertised - the marketing video said it is based on Ghosts but more features (I think?).

If so, $6 for the next gen of Ghosts is good. Can anyone confirm this?

On the $20 visa debit card, just go one for Partition Magic upgrate - although it says "debit"card, the instructions that come with it says must select "credit" not "debit" when using it. I was going to give it to my teen, but not sure if it stops at $20.

thanks for th post OP

being able to actually make a full drive backup/image from WITHIN windows sounds impressive. I'll definitely be looking in to

Its kinda like Ghost, but without the cool features. And it slows your computer down to a halt. Way cool.

Back away, run!

lol- if you have ANY norton product and leave it running in the backgorund you DESERVE to have a crappy running PC
load it when you use it, close it, rinse and repeat.

So for Ghost, install, create system backup, then unistall? Wouldn't just only open when need (not run in background) be sufficent to prevent performance impacts?

I need a core system backup solution - my kids hose up there systems, then I spend too long formating the drive, laying down the OS (MS), then the SP, then the security updates, then the office apps, then the security updates & SP for the apps.... pain in the @#@$##$

I just want to save a clean core image that I can easly laydown in few steps. any other suggestions - if Ghost is a piece of #$#$#@.

Guess this question is for the OS form!

Thanks for any suggestions. (besides charging my kids evertime I have to service there systems)

Where are you getting the above information ?

According to symantec....

" Offers all the power of Symantec's Norton Ghost technology, plus faster ways to back up files!.."

Are they misrepresenting this product ?

At least they were nice enough to have a cute chick on the video.

I remember when Norton was pretty good stuff but I agree with some of the other posts here, Avoid it at all costs!

It's worse that EA software...wait is that even possible

Last time I used this (the free version they bribed me with), it would not allow you to make an image of your hard drive, at least not directly. That's a primary Ghost feature that most of us geeks like and use.

Basically its a blend of goback and ghost.

I use Acronis True Image and like it much better than Norton Ghost. Can't beat that price, though.

I've been using DriveImageXML - a freeware program that works well, and uses shadowCopy to allow for backups to be made within windows. The little used built-in Microsoft Backup program will also work.

Ok - I've got Ghost, it works really well but it will only backup a whole drive, not pick and choose. It will also allow you to restore your drive after failure. Save & Restore is a dumbed down version of Ghost. Read the reviews for "Save & Restore" on CNet.com - the users gave it an average of 1-2 out of 10. Ghost works great, but Norton dropped a useless app on the consumer with Save & Restore.

I just got Ghost because it was free at Fry's or Amazon last week, i can't remember which.

If you buy a Western Digital USB backup drive it comes with good backup software "WD Sync".

The backup software that gets the best reviews is "Acronis True Image 10" which can be had at Frys.com for about $50.

Think about it, you spent all that money on the HDD and OS/apps, don't skimp on the backup software...it's not worth the headache.

Hope that helps!
