Symantec software..

Hi all..

A fast question.

My edition of NIS 2005 will end in like 10 days.

I can now choose the following:

Upgrade to NIS 2006 for one more year :
Upgrade to NIS 2007 :
Upgrade my package to Systemworks basic edition:

The cost gets a bit more expensive for each upgrade.

Choosing other products than Symantec is NOT an option due to my company rules..



Plz advice me..

Symantec Corporate AV and FW.
$0.

Everything else seems to be a waste of cash.
They used to be good back in the Win98/2000 days.
But their stuff got less useful and more expensive with each version.

This will be a contentious topic and although I like kaspersky I have two systems on Norton 2007 and both have been working well with no noticable lag. It is probably important to note one has 1Gb the other 2Gb Ram and both are duel core.

I had to uninstall NIS 2006 from my work PC because the stealth network proxy was messing up internet connections, the spam filter was more annoying than helpful, and one update completely broke IE.

Antivir works well for me.

Out of those three I would go with NIS 2007. The 2007 versions are less bloated and should run fine on newer systems. It's the old systems that pay the price for bloatware.

I now found out, that i can get both NIS 2007 and the SystemWorks Basic for same as the cheapest solution i wrote earlier..

Think this should close the case.

I wouldn't recommend SW....I owned it for awhile and it is a big system hog. They wanted me to buy a new SW when the virus definitions were no longer compatible with the SW version I had. So I uninstalled SW and things run noticeably faster (replaced virus with NOD32 and CCCleaner for the registry cleaner). And I didn't have anything on in SW other than the antivirus and undelete for the recycle bin....but god knows what else was snaking throughout my system. When you delete SW you see just how much that thing tries to integrate itself with the OS.
