It looks like EastOutlet lowered their price on Systemworks - $7.99 with free USPS shipping. Get it here. I know the 2003 versions of the Symantec software are coming out in a few weeks, but this seems like a great price for Norton Antivirus, Norton Utilities, Norton Cleansweep, GoBack, Norton Ghost, Winfax, and "Norton Web Services, powered by CNET CatchUp".

Thanks, FPS

This is a nice deal
:disgust:
However, I just got it in another "deal". $19.95 + shipping.

I should know better than to get anything if it's not listed here in "Hot Deals".

Can anybody verify that this is legitimate, legal software from Symantec, and not just a CD that's been mass produced from China? I see that Staples sells the retail box version for $80. This is OEM software, I guess, but I'm not sure of the difference. Are there special requirements for LEGAL purchase of this kind of software? I want to get a good deal as much as anybody else, but if my money will just be going to fund piracy instead of into the hands of the rightful owners, I won't participate. (I may as well just burn a copy from my buddy, and not pay a dime!)

Not trying to be anal, but wanting to be careful...

I have ordered from EastOutlet before and received full retail, boxed, legitimate software (note that Systemworks does not come in a box, though). I have not ordered their Symantec software before now, but based on my one prior experience I expect this is legitimate software.

The reason I'm asking is because I had purchased the retail box version from Staples when they had a $40 coupon for that item, bringing it down to $39. After rebate, I will have gotten the boxed version for $9. When I saw that I could get the OEM version online for $6.80 without messing with the rebate hassles, I went ahead and bought a few more. When they came in, I compared the two. The one I got as "OEM version" is IDENTICAL to the boxed version CD with the same CD markings, etc. The only difference is that if you examine the center ring of the OEM CD (on the inner "track" where the CD media actually starts) the writing is in a different, smaller font on the OEM version. However, the text appears to be the same, except for the last numbers. Anybody know whether this text is a lot number or something for the media?

The fact that the font is different made me suspicious that the manufacturer may be different (ie pirated), but the fact that it has a similar "lot number" would seem to indicate it's legit. I'm confused. Maybe I'm making this more complicated than it should be...

From what I understand the Norton OEM antivirus has one month of updates, And The system works has one year. I have the system works and have been doing live updates for probably 8 months now.

Even though their listed address is 10 mins from my house, they apparently aren't setup to handle walk in customers. :-( It would have been neat to see their operation...

The NAV oem I picked up with 256 PC133 combo deal earlier this summer had 90 days of updates before requiring subscription for $9.99/ yr. I found that if you uninstalled/reinstalled NAV, it reset the 90 days. I don't know how long this could go on, but I did it about three times before I switched to the free AVG antivirus.

I bought NAV from EastOutlet a few months ago. It is an original Symantec OEM CD (i.e. no serial number, etc. needed). I registered and the installation was good for 12 months of updates

With hindsight I should have bought Internet Security or System Works, but hey I only needed NAV and, at the time, NAV was the only one that specifically said 12 months of updates on the EastOutlet website.

question.l.. if this is OEM with no serial... how legal is it anyway? what's the difference between this and just downloading it off the internet?
I mean... yeah I know its original.. but there's no serial so no real proof that you're giving symantec what they deserve for the software?

please someone answer this question and i'll buy a copy asap!

These OEM versions are legal because you PAID for them, and expect EastOutlet to have PAID for the CD's, when they bought them from Symantec or a distributor. (It's the same as receiving an OEM version of NAV with a Dell PC -- you expect Dell to have obtained NAV legally). When you donwload and install illegal software off the Internet, you're stealing (not judging here, just stating the law ;-). There's a big difference beween the two options.

I have been using SW2001, so for this OEM version, should I remove the 2001 first and then install 2002, or will it install on top and automatically delet the old stuff?

I got mine yesterday too. I haven't installed it yet, but it sure looks legitimate to me. I am happy.

Yes, uninstall 2001 and reboot before installing 2002
