I'm not sure I get it so maybe someone can shed some light on this.

The Dell 2405 is nearly the same price. Why would someone pick that instead of this? Is it the resolution? The refresh speed? Is there some other dramatic difference that would account for such a huge price difference?

The Dell is a monitor first, TV second. This is a TV first, monitor second. When used as a monitor, you need much higher performance numbers to provide an acceptable image quality because of the demanding nature and much closer viewing distances of computers.

When it's a TV, the viewing distance and much lower resolution feeds it's given work great for watching TV and DVD's and they can cut back on costs by not using high performance parts that are needed for computer applications.

i recently bought the dell w3000 for $1399 free shipping and it came with a samsung dvd player. it's also a 30" LCD tv/monitor, but the tech specs are strange...

Brightness (typical)
450 nits (typical)

Contrast Ratio
350:1 (typical)

Response Time
25ms (typical)

compare that with the lower priced syntax olevia:

Contrast Ratio: 750:1. Brightness: 500cd / m2.

has anyone compared these two? i know price isnt in the same range but i am surprised to see the dell's specs so much lower andits price so much higher. thanks in advance.

Why would you want this 1280x768 TV with gigantic pixels over a monitor with 1920x1200????
