I'm just curious how analog cable TV will look on it as I can't quite afford HD TV yet...

I have had this TV for about 3-4 months now and the analog picture is poor. Dont get me wrong you can still watch it and it looks ok but where this thing really shines is with an HD channel. When people see it they look at an analog channel and ask me why the hell i would spend that amount of $$ for the TV when it looks like that. THen you put on a HD sporting event and they want to know where to buy one.

If i didnt have HD, i definatly wouldnt have this TV.

Does that go the same for something like digital cable/satellite (non-HD)? What about playing Xbox games on this thing?

Digital cable is slightly better than analog cable; typically less noise and crawl. It may have a "smoother" look and less graininess than analog, but the resolution will still be so-so.

XBOX on these panels rock. Just get a HDTV kit and set the dashboard to output everything from 480P/720P/1080i.

I bought mine yesterday; I bought the 27" deal from CompUSA when I despaired of seeing a good deal on the 30", but I still have time to undo that decision. The website has some new info up today:

(5) The coupon code halpc3 is temporarily disabled since the code is being used by non-hal members. Orders already placed with this code shall be honored. (6) This item has been a hot seller. Customer reviews have been excellent on this product. We are keeping enough of this product in stock for the sale. (7) The sale of this item at $999 cannot be combined with any other coupons, free items, or promotions. Orders already placed shall be honored. (8) Yes, this is a brand new product. It is NOT used or refurbished in anyway. All packages are original from the manufacturer. (9) The sale may end soon without further notice.

So YMMV when it comes to the $969 price unless you got in already, but at about $1050 delivered it's still a nice deal assuming all goes well in shipment.

now THIS is great business practice! i know i'm not a hal member, but the fact that they are honoring it when they could have cancelled the order like so many other retailers would have done let's me know that this is a customer orriented business. they are now being added as one of my favorite my e-tailers

I have this model and its in my Bedroom. I have it hooked to my shuttle htpc. Im 6ft way from it and it works great using it as a computer monitor. Ive used it on my main rig for Gaming and its acceptable, No ghosting. but if your right and trying to use it for a Main Monitor for reading its doable, But there is a little shading on Text.

For Movies and DVDs this was well worth the $$.

Yeah, it was a pretty good but unfortunately the deal's over now.
It's priced at $1099 currently which is still a decent deal on this LCD.
I was debating all weekend but just couldn't pull the trigger since my 2001FP is serving me so well.

question about this TV for a hdtv newbie. In order for me to get HDTV on this TV through Time Warner, I have subscribe to their Digital CAble package and then rent some sort of HD tuning device from them correct?

Also, at my apartment, we use the cable TV jack for regular TV, as the apartment provides basic cable (just stations 1-21) for free, but this is not a reception over antenna. So, if I have my own HD tuner, then would i be able to catch regular HD broadcasts over the air?

Time Warner usually gives you a free HDTV decoder box when you upgrade to a basic digital cable subscription. You'll get basic HDTV channels for free as well. If you live near a bigger city, you should be able to get free OTA (over the air) HDTV, but you'll need to buy a tuner.

Fry's had this on sale last weekend for $999...it's more than likely they will have it again at that price.

No longer hot, really. Microcenter has had this (rebadged, iirc) at 899 (and even 799 with a coupon) as recently as a couple of weeks ago. It seems that if you really want this monitor, you should wait around a bit and try to get it for 899. It's 1099 there right now, so I guess if you need it right away, 999 is o.k.
