This TV is supposedly pretty good, and this is a really low price.

So, what's wrong with it? Other than the brand being a bit unknown...

Some specs I found: it has a DVI input (but no HDMI), so it can serve as a computer monitor at 1280x720; 12 ms access time, 700 cd/m^2 brightness.

Where did you get the 10% off coupon? I'd use it on their 37'' model. Also, is free shipping on all of their products?

That would be 8ms response time. I have the 37" model and love it. Great for PC gaming and 360.

I have the 32 and the 37 and love them both! But in all seriusness you can't beat them especially in there price range anly thing really close to them is westinghouse and there image quality is horrible.

I have the 27" model (I paid $1400 for it back in the day...and that was a scorching deal back then). This is a good TV for the money, but in general LCD looks bad compared to plasma (colors look washed out, blacks are grey). However, ghosting is very minor, and the TV looks pretty slick.

The included speakers are total crap, but if you care about video quality, chances are you care about sound too and will replace them with 'real' speakers; thankfully the included speakers snap right off. So does the stand, so it is ideal for wall-wounting (just make sure you buy the wall-mount kit).

And about not having HDMI, that's a non-issue since it supports HDCP through its DVI port (alphabet soup anyone?). Just use one of THESE cables. That's how I hook up my dish network HDTV DVR to the TV, and it works fine.

I've seen mixed specs listed: the -HVM model having 12, and the -HVE having 8, and vice versa.

Generally speaking, most LCD panels are 1366x768. A select few, 37" and above are 1920x1080, but, believe you me, any TV with a 1080 line resolution will scream about it in the product description.

I'd like to know why, with most HD being 720P, LCD panels aren't 1280x720.. however, with the compression level of HD, it's difficult to notice the scaling one way ore another. You sit far enough away and the details are still large enough to make it largely irrelevant.

I have the 27" model as well. I was a bit nervous buying a no-name brand TV as well. However I got my 27" model for $900 and "name" brands where in the $1500 range at the time.
I had one issue with mine, which was the remote didn't work so well. I called up Syntax and they sent a tech to my house to swap out the IR board on the TV itself. Over 17 months later, the TV is still working great. Now it's time for a bigger one!

Isn't there another 10% if you sign up for the target credit card?

Just looked its called the red card and they advertise it on their home page. Good way to save another 10%.

I'm looking to purchase a LCD TV for a female friend I admire w/o going overboard.

I found that Target has the 37" for $1,399.99 with:
Promotion Applied: -$140.00
Free Shipping: -$49.99
ORDER TOTAL: $1,259.99
Text

I've been researching and I can't decide between this or the SCEPTRE 37" for around $1400.

Any suggestions or comments on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The Sceptre is a 1080P set, much better deal.

BTW, don't buy big gifts for people you aren't sleeping with. If you are at the point that it's taking televisions to try and get in her pants, well then your way too far into the friend zone to have a chance.

Rage187, It's okay either way. Thanks though.

hondaf17, I was wrong on the current price which is around $1700. A prior sale was the $1400 which I think will eventually come around again. Hopefully...

Hopefully they'll be even cheaper.
