Editors' rating: 5.3 Mediocre
User rating: 93% 7% from 57 users

The good: Inexpensive for a flat-panel LCD HDTV; independent input memory; DVI input.
The bad: Lackluster styling; ill-conceived remote; poor color decoding; unable to render deep blacks; no 2:3 pull-down detection; nondefeatable edge enhancement; limited picture controls.
The bottom line: This no-name 30-inch LCD HDTV proves that sometimes a good price is too good to be true.

Don't understand why you are posting this here...

But anyway, almost everyone who has bought this has thrown out that review.

I'm using one as my monitor and is killer for games.

I have the Olevia 30" model, and it would do just fine for DVD movies. I can watch DVD movies via two different connections: YBrBb component from my XBox with the XBox HD connecting cable; and DVI from my Windows XP Media Center 2005 box.

With the XBox, you need to buy the special HD cable with the component connection. XBox has settings for 480p, 720p, and 1080i video output, all of which is supported by the Olevias.

My WMCE2K5 box is an Athlon 64 and Radeon 9800 Pro based system. Of course, the DVD movie looks best from WMC box because of the DVI connection.

Of course, if you had a progessive scan DVD player, then directly connect the player to the YBrBb component connection on the Olevia.

I am seriously looking at the Syntax Olevia LT32HV. It has a lot of added features and a cool black cabinet and 1366 x 768 Resolution, so no black bands at the top and bottom.

Datavision has it for $1699 after a $200 rebate

Datavision

and starting Monday Target has it for the same price $ 1899 plus an additional 10% off with a coupon code available on some sites and a $200 rebate. According to my calculations this brings it to $1509 + tax & shipping.

Its a good option for most people looking to sell a house. Take out that big bulky entertainment center/crt and wallmount one of these above a fireplace or something. BAM, You have a bigger more stylish house that just paid for this display and then some.

There's an online store selling the Syntax Olevia 32" for $1,550.00.

I don't know much about this store, so be cautious if you pursue this.

Florida Discount Electronics

I bought the Syntax Olevia 30" at Micro Center on Black Friday for $1,199 plus sales tax plus $200 MIR from Micro Center plus $200 MIR from Syntax.

It has to be the hottest deal of 2004.

Never trust an online store thats too cheap to register their own domain name, has an AOL email address and has no street address listed. :disgust:

This TV is not a hot deal unless you get it for <$1200. It was $999 at Fry's a few weeks ago, wait a few more weeks, it'll come around.

..the 32" wit the black frame looks good. Everybody that owns the 30" seems to be happy with it contradicting the cnet review and supporting the anandtech review..I'am wondering about date of mfgr and firmwear revisions..possibly the 32" might have a revised and updated firmwear and features. Do the existing 30" versions indicate firmwear revision anywhere on the back??..might be intresting to start a thread somewhere and indicate date of mfg and revision version..

I think I posted a confusing message.

I meant to say that there were two $200 MIR for the Olevia 30" purchased on Black Friday.

$1,199 less $400 rebates = Net price $799 plus local sales tax.

That is teh ONLY bad review of this monitor online. And in that same review, the USERS gave it a 93%, so it was that ONE editor who had a problem with it. Who knows, maybe he asked for a free demo and Syntax said no?

I have the TV, it's not perfect but for the money , it's SPLENDID!

I saw the TV in the store surrounded by Sharps and other LCD TVs. I was actually impressed with it. It looked MUCH better than many of the other LCDs including the Sharps.
