System crashes all the time on counterstrike!!! Help...must feed the addiction!

with the exception of occasional system crashes, I am stable except with the game Counter Strike. I play, and at random lengths of time (anywhere from 1 minute to 10minutes), I get one of two crashes. These only happen in game play and not during loading or pre-screens.

1) game automatically closes and exits me to windows
2) get into some sort of loop where the screen freezes and there is a short sound file that repeats (must hit restart button)

I have tried both OpenGL and Direct3D under various resolutions and have disabled high quality sound.

Any ideas?

The bad news is, I have been there before. The good news is, I think I can help. First off: have you installed the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers? Which version of the detonators are you running? Are you using any usb devices? If so have you tried the usb filter driver? Also, if the above suggestions don't work, try to make sure that nothing is in pci slots 4 and 6 as they share irq's with usb devices. Also sound cards do better towards the end of the board, and try to keep pci slot 1 open if possible.

Thanks for the reply.

1) I recently (yesterday) got the detonator files from Nvidia, to I think I am ok there.
2) recent Via files?...not sure, so I will have to check (heck, i'll just reinstall the new ones just in case the ones I have are not noew =) )
3) I have my mouse on USB, but I am not sure what the USB filter is...can you explain.
4) Nothing is in ANY PCI slot. everygthing is onboard except video which is obviosly agp=)

Ok, update....

I just went and installed the newest card, via, usb, and detonator drivers.

I played CS running around (empty server) shooting things up and planting a bomb....after about 2 minutes I crash out to a blue screen. This time I actually wrote down info...can anyone decifer it? it might be a clue to a solution

try this link. If the link doesnt work take a look at microsofts help and do a search on stop errors. It sounds like a hardware/driver problem. CS is a very intense game and its pulling data from all sources. Sometimes the pipe gets plogged up, and crashes. Sorry this is so vague, but im not a microsoft programmer. Good luck man.

sounds like with a name like kmixer.sys that its a sound card problem. Seeing as you have an onboard sound card I would try to reinstall it with the latest drivers.

Better yet, try disabling the onboard sound in your BIOS and see if the crashing disappears. Maybe you have either bad drivers, or a bad onboard sound chip.
