System hanging during DMI pool initialization

I'm having a problem booting my newly assembled PC; it hangs during DMI pool initialization. A couple of tries, I saw "DMI pool initialization..success." But it stops there. It's a FIC 1st mainboard AN11 motherboard. CPU=1900AMD Athlon. Tried booting with minimal components. Same problem. Tried a second HD, same. Tried a second Memory stick, same. Vendor said to reset BIOS by taking battery, shorting it out, then replacing battery..Did that..same problem. Vendor's last recommendation is for BIOS chip replacement. I'm not that experienced to try that.

Any ideas?

If you just purchased the Motherboard you may want to RMA
it back to the vendor. There should be know reason why you
have to replace the BIOS.

When your PC hangs after DMI pool initialization, it usually means that it has been unable to start booting the OS. Usually because an HD is incorrectly configured or connected. Have you correctly set the jumpers, and are you using the correct cable? Have you configured the HD in the BIOS?

What happens if you have just the Mobo, with RAM and CPU and a floppy drive withouth HD connected?

Yeah I had DMI errors because I had problems with my hard drive. Run scandisk, see if it turns up any bad sectors.

Could be a problem if the PC won't boot.

Do you have a floppy drive in the computer? I've found that if the BIOS thinks there is a floppy drive but there is none, the system hangs at the DMI init section.
Also, in BIOS, did you try it with the Fail-Safe defaults option? Give that a shot; might help narrow it down.

Put a windows bootable disk in there. And run scandisk off that.

It was kinda difficult to run scandisk since I wasn't able to boot it even with a floppy at first. It was a new harddrive (and new everything). But after so much trouble, replacing this and that, including the motherboard, I decided to use another boot disk, and it worked! We've focused on those two things the vendor suggested might be problematic: BIOS chip or harddrive. Now we think there was probably nothing wrong with those other parts. Computer's up and running.
